The 5 Most Exciting Announcements at the 2011 VGA's

In and amongst all the exciting awards given out at the VGA’s, something possibly more exciting happens: The announcements of new games. This year there were a bucket-load, so read on to find out what we thought were the top 5 most exciting announcements and trailers at the 2011 VGA’s.

5. Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD
This is something my buddies and I have been talking about for a while. It was a series we played to death throughout high school. It has a great system with which to generate top scores and display them on an online international leaderboard, something the first Playstation couldn’t do. Now it’s here, the details haven’t been announced but here’s a teaser to get your memory jogging.

4. Fortnite

CliffyB of Epic games announced a new cartoon-styled title called Fortnite. Not much has been announced other than the art-style and a comment by Cliff to Joystiq saying there aren’t any ‘dudebros’ in it. The trailer alludes to the possibility of it being a tower defence or base defence title that requires scavenging in order to survive. Either way, if CliffyB’s behind it, we’re really excited about it.

3. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

The game that went AWOL for a while has resurfaced, looking far more realized than it did a few years ago. Metal Gear Rising: Revegeance is a spin-off in the Metal Gear universe and the focus is more on swordplay than on gun fighting. You play as Raiden, not as Solid Snake this time, and it looks far crazier than MGS. If that’s even possible.

2. Rainbow Six Patriots

The more I see of this title, the more excited I get about it. It looks grittier, more relevant than the Vegas series which is their best decision for the series yet. The solid Rainbow Six Vegas cover-centric gameplay seems to be intact, with even more options when it comes to tactical deployment. The only problem is, we’ll have to wait until 2013 for it.

1. The Last of Us
Naughty Dog have announced that they will be working on the new The Last of Us, a story-laden adventure game exclusive to the PS3. It’s Naughty-Dog’s first M-rated title and centres on a father-daughter relationship in the midst of the world collapsing around them. The studio behind the Uncharted series, Naughty Dog know how to tell stories and The Last of Us looks like one helluva emotional ride.
