SA Gamers to Compete in South Korea 'Starcraft II', 'Tekken 6'

Once again the MSSA shall send a team overseas to represent South Africa at the annual IeSF World Championships. This year the 2012 IeSF World Championships will be held in Cheon-an City, South Korea from the 4th to 8th of October 2012.

The host city, Cheon-an, means ‘the most peaceful place under the sky’. Cheon-an in the one of the most developed cities in Korea for education, culture, environment, welfare, and transportation. The city is located about 90 kilometers from Seoul, which takes about an hour, and has convenient transportation as connected with highway, railroad, and etc. Above all, it has an advantage that people can reach Cheon-an by using the Seoul Metro.

The MSSA has sent teams across to the IeSF every year since 2009.

Many of South Africa's top gamers have been afforded through this ongoing venture the ability to hone their skills and make their mark on the international scene. One just has to think of Abubakar Ebrahim Akhalwaya , Rolando De Aveiro, Magiel de Lange, and Robert 'PandaTank' Botha.

Thanks to the IeSF/MSSA collaboration, Robert ‘PandaTank’ is now seeded in the top five StarCraft II players in the world.

Through this participation, the lucky few, not only earn their Protea Colours and are are also afforded the opportunity of meeting all the other top players from the rest of the world.

However, the titles have changed.
In 2011 it was FIFA Online and StarCraft II. This year it will be TEKKEN and StarCraft II that will be played.

Already the following gamers have qualified for the 2012 National Team Trials to be held in August:

StarCraft II:

Robert Botha       PolarFluke   (represented SA in 2011)
Ryan Niksch        MAYHEM       (SA National Championships)

As we get closer to the NTT's so the list of qualifiers will grow.

With the Mpumalanga, Western Cape, KwaZulu Natal, and online championships for StarCraft still to be held, there is more than enough time for aspirant competitive gamers to qualify for the annual National Team Trials in order to be selected to represent South Africa.
