The Monday Morning Game Report - eSports dilemmas

It's always sad when a weekend concludes. Having to once again wake up early and then go to work; and then sleep early, so you'll be up early so you can go to work again. And you have to put up this charade for five continuous days. Why can't we just stay in our jammies and play Xbox? Anyway, here are the top video game stories that happened over the weekend.

SA eSports teams get shafted out of MLG Call of Duty (COD) Championships

On Saturday evening the regional qualifiers for the MLG Call of Duty Championships were held and as the heading suggests, it did not go smoothly. The fly in the ointment is that the winning team, Team Rize, has two members based in the UK, a circumstance whichs is allowable under the MLG's rules of competition. However with an MLG referee's blessing, Team Rize's UK members were allowed to host matches over Xbox Live, resulting in a massive lag disadvantage for the wholly SA based teams. Check the interview with Team Hi5's Holden and Team Adept's Damage on Keemstar's The Drama Alert for more details.

UPDATE - MWEB GameZone is talking to Megarom, Activision and Emerging Markets about the SA qualifiers, we will keep you updated. Clan High Five and Team Adept have both lodged tickets with MGL, the tournament administrator.

New MSSA President eSports frustrates community

New Mindsports South Africa President Simphiwe Maphumulo conducted an exclusive interview with MWEB GameZone Site Manager, Han Cilliers. At the interview's close, readers were invited to ask questions; which they did with aplomb. At the time of writing, the interview generated 415 comments, but Mr Maphumulo's response was curt, addressing only one out of the many questions and issues raised, and served to incense the local eSports community only further.

Check the link for the full story. And don't forget to read the comments. Cilliers indicated that a follow-up article will hit the community later today, Desmond kurz, Digital & Manager fro MWEB confirmed that a plan is in the works with this tweet, "Thank you :). We have a plan, we going to try put it in action this week."

Titanfall beta draws 2 million unique users

Polygon is reporting that the recently concluded Titanfall beta had more than two million unique participants. “You never want to say that everything is going to be perfect,” said Respawn's community manager Abbie Heppe. “Obviously there are things that can change. But you don’t want to say, ‘oh, no, there will still be problems,’ because you don’t want to give people a lack of confidence in what you’re doing."

Nearly 3-minutes of inFamous: Second Son gameplay footage leaked

The much anticipated PS4 exclusive. inFamous: Second Son, got a gameplay video dropped on YouTube. While not technically an official release, Sony hasn't made any moves to have it pulled, so it's safe to assume they're OK with it. If you're planning on getting the game, but concerned about story spoilers, don't worry, the whole video is in Russian.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare won't have microtransactions

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare will be released without the addition of microtransactions, a surprising move considering the game's publisher is EA. Speaking to Gamespot the game's producer, Brian Lindley said, "So we're not going to have any microtransactions at all at launch." But I suppose that statement does leave open that possibility the game could get microtransactions later.

Garden Warfare will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but there are no plans for PlayStation consoles
