Battlefield 4 Tips and Tricks: Field Upgrades

Welcome to Battlefield 4 Tips and Tricks with BerZerK Gaming. Today we will be discussing the all new Field Upgrades system.

Battlefield 3 was quite simple, choose a squad perk and your entire squad gets that perk as long as you have chosen it. Well Battlefield 4 has introduced an entirely reworked perk system called "Field Upgrade" which will promote teamwork and those with good teamwork will get the perks and those who don't will lose them!

There are 11 different Field Upgrades to choose from with 3 being available throughout all the classes and each class having 2 custom Field Upgrades of its own. Unlike the perks in Battlefield 3, which was active as soon as you chose it, Battlefield 4 perks need to be gained by teamwork points such as repairing team vehicles, giving med packs and ammo packs to teammates and reviving them. There are 4 perks in every Field Upgrades package. Level 1 you will have active always but you need to progress your field upgrade to gain the perks of level 2,3 and 4. If your entire squad gets wiped you lose all the perk levels and have to progress it from scratch again which will promote teamwork to keep each other alive.

Unlike Battlefield 3 where your team had to choose perks which compliment you Battlefield 4 allows every player to have their own set of field upgrades that do not effect one another. The advantage with this is that you can have your own custom 4 perks that you think you will find most useful to yourself and will also avoid perk stacking which was annoying on public servers.

Battlefield 4 - Standard 3 Field Upgrades

Defensive

defensive.jpg

  • Level 1: Armor - Reduces incoming Damage to the Chest by 10%
  • Level 2: Cover - Decreases amount of Incoming Suppression by 50%
  • Level 3: Flak - Decreases damage from explosions by 15%
  • Level 4: Quick Regen - Decreases time before Out of Combat Heal by 20%

This is very effective if you are in maps where you are constantly suppressed and being fired at and will most definitely increase your durability and get your health regen back up as quick as possible.

Offensive

offensive.jpg

  • Level 1: Sprint - Increases maximum Sprint Speed by 10%
  • Level 2: Ammo - Increases maximum inventory of Bullets by 50%
  • Level 3: Grenades - Increases maximum inventory of Hand Grenades by 1
  • Level 4: Reduced Fall - Increases height you can Fall without Damage

Most useful thing is the ammo increase which will help if you have no support class giving ammo around you and will also let you move 10% faster on the battlefield.

Shadow

  • Level 1: Quick Unspot: Reduces time you are spotted by 2 seconds
  • Level 2: Sprint - Increases maximum sprint speed by 10%
  • Level 3: Reduced Fall - Increases height you can fall without damage
  • Level 4: Stealth - Undetected by motion sensors except when sprinting

This is in my opinion one of the least useful field upgrades because it only allows you to go slightly undetected on radar and to really benefit from this perk you have to gain Level 4. Might be useful when flanking snipers undetected.

Battlefield 4 - Assault Class

Combat Medic

combatmedic.jpg

  • Level 1: Medkit Upgrade - Increases maximum deployed medic bags and packs by 1
  • Level 2: Sprint - Increases maximum sprint speed by 10%
  • Level 3: Defib Upgrade - Increases charge up speed of the defibrillators by 100%
  • Level 4: Medical Unit - Occupied vehicles will slowly heal nearby soldiers

Not only does this give you more medic bags to throw down and make you run faster but it also gives something really useful when reviving teammates. Without this perk you will usually take quite a while to revive someone to 100 health and will sometimes mean life or death but with Level 3 you will almost instantly revive a team mate at 100 health. This is extremely useful for vehicle drivers to heal their engineers around them once they reach Level 4.

Grenadier

grenadier.jpg

  • Level 1: Grenades - Increases maximum inventory of hand grenades by 1
  • Level 2: Sprint - Increases maximum sprint speed by 10%
  • Level 3: 40MM Grenades - Increases maximum inventory of 40mm grenades by 3
  • Level 4: Flak - Decreases damage from explosions by 15%

This is most useful on close quarters as the bonus grenades will let you nade the enemy out of the corners. Not really useful on big vehicle based maps.

Battlefield 4 - Engineer Class

Anti-Tank

antitank.jpg

  • Level 1: Mines - Increases maximum inventory of AT Mines or M2 SLAM to 6
  • Level 2: Rockets - Increases maximum inventory of AT and AA ammo to 7
  • Level 3: More Deployed Explosives - Increases maximum of deployed explosives to 6
  • Level 4: Flak - Decreases damage from explosions by 15%

This is designed for offensive engineers. If you aren't planning on repairing your own vehicles but instead want to hunt down enemy vehicles then this is a must. It gives you more survive-ability against vehicles and increased ammo to make sure you can keep harassing them.

Mechanic

  • Level 1: Fast Repair - Increases speed and sabotage of repairs by 35%
  • Level 2: Flak - Decreases damage from explosions by 15%
  • Level 3: Cover - Decreases amount of incoming suppression by 50%
  • Level 4: Repair Unit - Occupied vehicles will slowly repair nearby vehicles

You will be your team vehicle's best friend with this field upgrade as you will gain 35% increased speed on repairs on Level 1. This is very useful as it also gives you more cover from enemy fire while you are busy repairing your team's vehicles and once you reach Level 4 it will become wise to have vehicles stick close to your occupied vehicle as you will repair them without even doing a thing.

Support Class

Indirect Fire

indirectfire.jpg

  • Level 1: Ammo bag upgrade - Increases maximum deployed ammo boxes and packs by 1
  • Level 2: Ammo - Increases maximum inventory of bullets by 50%
  • Level 3: Indirect Fire - Increases maximum M224 and XM25 Ammo
  • Level 4: Resupply Unit - Occupied vehicles will slowly resupply nearby soldiers

Very useful for the team as you will be able to supply more ammo and also support them with more smoke or explosive damage on the XM25. Once you reach Level 4 and you are occupying a vehicle you will feel like a supply truck,

Perimeter Defense

perimeter defense.jpg

  • Level 1: Ammo - Increases maximum inventory of bullets by 50%
  • Level 2: Suppression - Increases amount of outgoing suppression by 50%
  • Level 3: Claymores - Increases the maximum inventory of claymores to 3
  • Level 4: MP-APS Upgrade - Increases time MP-APS can deflect incoming explosives

You will rain bullets down on your enemies and either kill them or suppress them so bad that they will not be able to shoot back. More claymore means you can defend objectives and flanks easier and once you reach level 4 you can defend off enemy explosives even better.

Recon Class

Spec Ops

specops.jpg

  • Level 1: Stealth - Undetected by motion sensors except when sprinting
  • Level 2: C4 Explosives - Increases maximum inventory of C4 explosives to 6
  • Level 3: Motion Sensors - Increases maximum inventory of motion sensors to 5. Increases range of T-UGS and MAV by 40%
  • Level 4: Quick Unspot - Reduces time you are spotted by 2 seconds

Very useful for flanking the enemy and taking out enemy vehicles with being more undetectable and having double the amount of C4.

Sniper

sniper.jpg

  • Level 1: Hold Breath - Increases time you can steady scope by 100%
  • Level 2: Cover - Decreases amount of incoming suppression by 50%
  • Level 3: Quick Unspot - Reduces time you are spotted by 2 seconds
  • Level 4: Increases time your targets are spotted by 45%

Camp heaven. Yes this will make you the ultimate sniper with longer breath holding, less suppression, increased spotting time.

Conclusion

Battlefield 4 Field Upgrades beats the Battlefield 3 perk system in my opinion as it offers more dynamic choices for a single player and will definitely be a good advantage if you choose the correct perks for your play style without affecting your team.

Overall Battlefield 4 has been good despite the bugs it has due to the dynamics it offers. Once a few patches are released to fix the major issues I think Battlefield 3 will be forgotten very quickly.
