We were all blown away when CD Projekt Red finally unveiled 48 minutes of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay last month and everything about it simply screamed quality. As an open-world game, there is always this concern that side quests will be meaningless grinds and feel a lot like filler content, but for Cyberpunk 2077, that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to developer CD Projekt Red, the Cyberpunk 2077 side quests will feel like complete stories and live up to the standard of the main quest.

That’s quite a bold statement but if you look at CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3, it isn’t difficult to believe at all. The side quests in The Witcher 3 was spectacular, to say the least, and truly felt meaningful.

Cyberpunk 2077 Side Quests

Speaking to Edge Magazine (as summarized by Reddit user Jackjackea) Patrick Mills, Quest Designer on Cyberpunk 2077 explained the developer’s philosophy for quest design:

We want to make sure that all of them are up to the standards of the main quest. That there’s nothing that feels like filler, just something to do while waiting for the next quest or to get more money to buy the next thing. We don’t really like to do that. We want to make sure that every quest feels like a complete story in and of itself

We don’t artificially limit ourselves. Our philosophy for quest design is, ‘If the player can logically do it, then they can’. And if they can’t, then we have to come up with a damn good reason why.

Mr Mills further explained how quests in Cyberpunk 2077 will work and how players will be able to roam the city, stating that:

Cyberpunk 2077’s quests have been designed to be kicked off at almost any point; you’ll be able to go to places and find items in Night City that are part of quests and pick up the trail of what’s going on here in a logical manner, without having to trigger the whole event sequence from a predetermined starting point.

The scope of Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 should be astounding. If Cyberpunk 2077 side quests truly will feel like complete stories on their own, then I, for one, cannot be more excited.

What do you think about Cyberpunk 2077 side quest reportedly to feel like full stories and how excited are you to play CD Projekt Red’s upcoming project? Let us know in the comment section below.
