The video game music concert in Bloemfontein on 8 September you need to attend

Right now I am having some serious FOMO about an awesome concert taking place next week in Bloemfontein. Why? Well, this is not your average concert, rather it is an "Epic Gamical Concert" that will feature tunes from some of the most popular video games in history including The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, Civilization and even some non-gaming tunes from Game of Thrones.

It is the first of its kind to ever take place in the Free State and is being performed by the Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO). The orchestra will be joined by renowned American cellist, Caleb Vaugh-Jones. Him, alongside student choir IMBA! will be on stage at the concert hosted in conjunction with Kovsie Gaming League and the University of Free State. There will even be gamers playing live video games while the orchestra performs.

The concert will be taking place at the University of the Free State's Kopanong Auditorium and will kick off at 19:30 on 8 September 2018. Tickets cost R80 and can be purchased online on Computicket.com or at any Computicket outlet.

Alexander Fokkens, CEO of the FSSO and conductor of the Epic Gamical Concert says that the huge growth of gaming in SA will see an increasing awareness of the art of video game music and hopes that events like these could one day become a norm like pop concerts and other parties. The opportunity to create an experience like this in SA is great in my opinion as we don't often have a chance to catch the magic of video game music.

“This is going to be a truly unique experience. It will create a musical discovery opportunity for Free State gamers, students and scholars who will be exposed to the magnitude of the spectrum of possibilities when it comes to orchestral sound. Yet, it will also show lovers of more traditional classical pieces the wonderful diversity of orchestral music.

If you are in the area next week on 8 September 2018 then be sure to attend this. I would really love to be in Bloemfontein to witness this and I just hope it is a huge success and enables it to move across SA so more and more people can attend.
