EA donates $1 million to Jacksonville victims and a tribute livestream takes place next week

This past Sunday, two esports competitors were shot and killed while multiple others were injured during a shooting at a Madden NFL Classic qualifier which took place in Jacksonville, Florida. This tragic event led to Electronic Arts cancelling the three remaining qualifiers.

It is the first time the mega-publisher is dealing with such a situation and cancelling the remaining events to work on “a comprehensive review of safety protocols for competitors and spectators” is a great move.

It is important to note that these qualifiers were handled and operated by independent partners and not by EA, but EA still wants to help the victims and the families of Taylor Robertson and Elijah Clayton who so tragically passed away. Therefore, EA announced that they will be making a $1 million contribution to support the victims and have established the “Jacksonville Tribute” with funds raised going to the victims and all those affected by the tragic events.

For those who want to join in and support the initiative, EA plans to launch a Jacksonville Tribute Livestream next week Thursday, 6 September 2018. EA explains that:

We’re also working to set up a fund where others can contribute alongside our donation, and we will come back very soon with further details.

Contributions will go to the victims, including the families of Taylor Robertson, Elijah Clayton, and all those who were affected. We would also like to help by bringing the gaming community together, and uniting in play, through the Jacksonville Tribute Livestream next Thursday, September 6.

We’ve heard from so many of you that you would like to support the victims, and to show that this horrific event will not define us, but only serve to make our community stronger.  We’re already working with many of you to help make this happen through the livestream.” - Source

I, for one, will be tuning in to the Jacksonville Tribute Livestream no matter what time it will take place next Thursday. At the time of writing, the start time has not been revealed and we don’t know which payment methods for donations will be available. EA are still nailing down the details and will share more information soon.

We will keep our readers up-to-date as more information becomes available and specific start times and further details get revealed.

Will you tune in to the Jacksonville Tribute Livestream and what do you think about EA’s efforts so far? Let us know in the comment section below.
