If you’ve been following the Dota 2 pro scene for any decent amount of time, you might have heard the expression “Chinese Dota best Dota” and hey, maybe Valve heard it too, as it has been announced that The International 2019 will take place at the awesome Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China.

The first The International was held in Germany and then for the next several years, it was held in the USA but due to VISA issues, Valve decided to move it to Canada this year. For the first time ever, The International will head to China and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if many people are concerned about it after the infamous Shanghai Major.

The Shanghai Major was plagued by connection issues and that’s one of the worst things for spectators and players alike, but with a year of preparation available, hopefully, everything will go as planned.

The Mercedes Benz Arena has a massive seating capacity of 18,000 and I expect the arena will be packed throughout as we know just how passionate the Chinese Dota 2 fans are. It almost feels like a bit of a consolation prize for the Chinese fans, as the Chinese Juggernauts PSG.LGD lost in the Grand Finals of The International 2018 against OG, even though it was China’s “turn” to lift the Aegis of Champions.

PGL will be producing The International 2019 and we assume that will be in collaboration with the Chinese organization Perfect World. No official dates have been announced for The International 2019 but expect the tournament to take place sometime in August as is the tradition.

What do you think about The International 2019 taking place in China this year and are you concerned due to the issues that transpired at the Shanghai major? Let us know in the comment section below.
