There will be no Assassin's Creed title released in 2019 - Could be next-gen debut

It seems that after you finish Assassin's Creed: Odyssey this coming October, the next time you will be playing an Assassin's Creed game it will be in 2020 on a new console. According to Ubisoft, the upcoming Assassin's Creed game only happened due to Origins and Odyssey beginning development at the same time and due to this, next year Ubisoft will take a break to work on something new.

This is according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot who spoke to Gamespot at Gamescom this week.

"On Assassin's, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin's next year," said Guillemot. "It's just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you're not going to have a fully fledged one."

When asked about what gamers can expect from the series in 2019, Yves hinted that the current release, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will be receiving a lot of content on a regular basis with new possibilities for play so when gamers start their Odyssey experience this year it will last longer than any Assassin's Creed to date.

When speaking about the year gap between Syndicate and Origins, Yves thinks it was a great move on their part. He mentions that the time gave the team the possibility to bring what they wanted to life and the response from the community has been great. Yves says that if the community loved Origins so much they are going to love Odyssey even more.

Now with this news comes a little prediction. With next-gen rumoured to be around the corner, say a 2019 or 2020 release at the latest, Ubisoft's next Assassin's Creed game could be making its debut on the next generation of consoles. This means that Ubisoft could be either working on two new games, one for current hardware and one for next-gen, similar to what the studio did in 2013 with Assassin's Creed Unity and Rogue. They could also be working on a cross-platform release with enhancements to next-gen hardware too.

While we don't know for sure, it is pretty exciting to know that after Odyssey, the next time we will see the series could be on brand new consoles. Check out 45 minutes of gameplay from E3 2018 we recorded during our time with the game.
