Black Ops 4's battle royale beta start date and platforms announced

I am not a fan of the genre, but I am very curious to play Black Ops 4's Blackout and Battlefield V's Battle Royale modes. Both franchises are arguably the most important and popular when it comes to first-person shooters; both for casual and professional gamers, so it is a crucial moment for the battle royale genre when these two giants release their perspective modes.

Call of Duty takes the first step with the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta when it releases in September. A few hours ago, Treyarch announced via the official Call of Duty Twitter account that the Blackout beta will launch on Monday, 10 September first on the PlayStation 4 with PC and Xbox One to follow. The recent Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta released on the PlayStation 4 a week ahead of the other two platforms.

Treyarch didn't announce much more details about the beta, but the clip on Twitter indicates that Blackout will support solo play, two-man teams, and a squad of up to four people.

Activision has been tight-lipped about what we can expect from Call of Duty's battle royale mode. All we know so far is what they announced in May during the world reveal of Black Ops 4. Treyarch Chairman Mark Lamia claimed that it will be "something you have not experienced before."  We know that Blackout will include every asset from all four Black Ops games in every map! That means the full Zombie cast, all their weapons and all their gear, and ten years of Black Ops features.

"BLACKOUT is an experience unlike any other game or mode in Call of Duty history, where players will have to scavenge, strategize, compete and survive to win," said Mark Gordon, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “The Black Ops community means everything to us, so we knew in order to deliver something really special for our fans like Blackout, with the biggest map we’ve ever created in Call of Duty, we had to push ourselves and our tech to the absolute limits.”

More recent Blackout news came via the recent multiplayer beta trailer that showed a few seconds of gameplay. The most obvious detail from the 15-second trailer is the four-player squad that seemed to include some characters from the Zombie mode. This could indicate that Blackout characters will be highly customizable.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases worldwide on October 12 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. See here for your Black Ops 4 South African Price List.
