During a panel at QuakeCon 2018, Fallout 76 Game Director Todd Howard sat alongside Development Director Chris Meyer and Project Leader Jeff Gardiner to talk about the upcoming survival game. A lot of questions were asked of which the development team tried to answer as much as possible. Most of the details touched on were new with PvP being a central point of focus for the panel. Fallout 76 Private Servers, PvP matchmaking and even the ability to block some players in the game if they troll you.

  • PvP will start after you hit someone for the first time as you will do reduced damage. It is sort of like an invitation to PvP when you slap someone and although it will not kill them straight away, it will be the start of the fight.
  • There are caps rewarded for defeating someone and more caps if this someone is on a higher level than you. If you die and avenge your death you will also be rewarded double the caps.
  • If you are being attacked by someone and you don't want to fight, the attacker can kill you but they will get no reward and they become a wanted murderer. This means they appear on everyone's map and have a bounty on their heads so everyone will go for them.
  • PvP does not activate until level 5
  • You can turn on a setting called "Pacifist" which means you don't deal damage to other players.
  • If you die you drop junk which acts as an upgrade material to make items and upgrade gear. You can go back and pick this junk up if you want if no one else picks it up. You can also store junk in your stash for safekeeping in case you die
  • You can black specific troll players so they won't appear in your game or map.
  • PvP will balance two players to the same level so you will never feel overwhelmed and weak against a higher-levelled player.
  • When you nuke a camp it will destroy the entire encampment but you can rebuild it thanks to blueprints
  • These blueprints allow you to pack up your camp and move it anywhere you want very quickly too. Camps are also very easy to repair.
  • You can play music in your camps and around the world with musical instruments.
  • Voice chat is enabled in the game. There is also a proximity voice chat system for strangers so you can communicate with people around you.
  • V.A.T.S is in real time. Targeting different body parts is a perk which you need to unlock. The percentage of hitting a specific body part is based on your perceptions and investing in this Perception stats helps your accuracy and ability to find enemies.
  • Fallout 76 will have more music than all past games. This includes music composed by Inon Zur and you will be able to listen to music through radio stations playing a large selection of 1940's music.
  • Private servers will be available for the game. These servers will host the ability to play with mods.
  • Fallout 76 is 80% what we love about the Fallout series and 20% of new things.

Quite a lot of information released there. Fallout 76 is due for release on 14 November for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
