Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Beta - Start times, download size and everything you can expect

Black Ops 4 Beta.jpg

It is that time of the year again where the Call of Duty fever kicks in. This weekend the closed beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 begins and if you are a fan of the series then you have probably been waiting for this since its reveal back in April. The beta is closed which means you either need to have pre-ordered the game to gain access or you can pre-order right now and it will grant you access to the beta. The PS4 beta has kicked off with the PC and Xbox One versions next week.

For those who want to try out the beta without pre-ordering, we've got a few keys to give away. All you need to do is retweet this Tweet before 12:00 today to enter for a chance to win a beta key.

Start Times, Pre-Load and Download Size

The PS4 beta is now live. The PS4 beta phase ends on 6 August 2018 at 19:00 before starting up again alongside the Xbox One version on 10 August 2018 at 19:00 SA time. As for the PC beta. it kicks off on 11 August 2018 at 19:00 SA time before ending on 13 August 2018 along with the PS4 and Xbox One beta.

As for pre-loading the beta, if you have pre-ordered digitally then you can start pre-loading right now. Head to the PlayStation Store and search for Black Ops 4 Beta. You will be able to start the download and let it run before the beta kicks off. The beta comes in at 32.7GB on PS4 so give yourself ample time to prep the download.

If you pre-ordered through a retail store then you will need to redeem the code they sent you on the official Black Ops 4 beta page. You will then choose your platform of choice and Activision will email you your beta code for that platform very soon as we already received our keys at roughly 09:00 this morning. PC and Xbox One owners will get their codes later next week before the next beta phase begins.

Game modes and what to expect

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta is all about the PvP mode so there will be no battle royale testing taking place at all. The Blackout beta is said to take place in September on PS4 although there are no details as of yet.

The beta will, however, include four game modes in four playlists and six playable maps

  • Frequency
  • Contraband
  • Seaside
  • Payload
  • Hacienda
  • Gridlock

The beta will include then Specialists which are

  • Ruin
  • Seraph
  • Firebreak
  • Battery
  • Recon
  • Torque
  • Crash
  • Ajax
  • Nomad
  • Prophet

As for game modes, the following four game modes will be available

  • Control
  • Chaos Team Deathmatch
  • Capture
  • Search and Destroy

Control is the new game mode that sees teams attacking and defending objectives on the map. You have limited lives and three capture opportunities. This mode I played at E3 and it was pretty cool by the way.

Keep in mind that no progress carries over to the main game at all. Also, if you log into the beta during the weekend you will unlock a special calling card showing that you participated in the beta weekend. If you reach max rank you will also unlock a permanent token at launch. These tokens will be used to unlock any item in create-a-class. Speaking of which, the entire create-a-class system will be available in the beta test, so you will be able to test it out.

Are you participating in the beta in the coming weeks? Let us know in the comments below.
