Fallout 76 pre-order owners unhappy after BETA details suggests ''timed rollout'' feature

Fallout 76 BETA

Bethesda's Fallout 76 is looking great and its upcoming BETA has been dated for sometime in October. The thing is, if you want to get into the BETA you will need to pre-order the game but it seems there is an even bigger catch. According to Bethesda's community manager, Jurassica, who announced the October BETA release window, Bethesda will be choosing BETA participants for the test and will slowly expand the selection over time when the beta begins. This means that some people may not be given BETA access right away and depending on the duration of the beta, may have limited time to test it out.

To make things worse, Bethesda has not been clear about their statement regarding the BETA selection process other than you have to pre-order the game to get a spot. When this spot opens for you is all up to them it seems.

Starting in October we’ll be selecting people who have pre-ordered the game from a participating retailer to enter our B.E.T.A. We’ll start small and grow over time as we prepare for launch. Be sure you’ve read our F.A.Q., for details on how to redeem your B.E.T.A. code and other important details.

EDIT: To clarify, everyone who pre-orders at a participating retailer will be included in the B.E.T.A.

Jurassica tried to clarify what the statement meant but it still left confusion in the forums. Users are threatening to cancel their pre-orders due to concerns that they will be "chosen" too late into the tests. This goes especially for PS4 and PC gamers who will be playing the BETA late due to the Xbox One getting early access to it.

Can you guarantee that everyone on each system will get fair, even access to the BETA? Or can you not? Simple question.

Frankly, if I'm going to be given more or less time than what anyone else is given for the exact same price, for an arbitrary reason, I'm cancelling my order.

Treat people equally. It's really not hard.

It is only natural to feel confused and upset about this situation. A game that is hyping a BETA test and pushing pre-orders by doing so only to tell you that the BETA may not last long for you, is a concern. Bethesda should just clarify it all so gamers can rest assured that they will play the BETA when it goes live and not a few days later after hundreds of thousands of gamers have been playing it.

However, given that it is an online game, server capacity is a concern so a rollout may be necessary. Then again, we have seen games with millions of players like WoW and Destiny rollout a beta at once.

If you only got access to the BETA a few days after everyone else after pre-ordering the game would you be happy about it? Let us know in the comments below.
