Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts III director admits games were revealed way too early

Another E3 is done and it comes as no surprise that we saw zero Final Fantasy 7 Remake at the show. While it was full of Kingdom Hearts III reveals with both a release date and a load of gameplay shown off, the much-anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake was missing in action.

Of course, we all know the reason why but the game director, Tetsuya Nomura, has now admitted that both Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy 7 Remake were revealed way too early in their development cycle, leading to the silence behind the game's development since the initial reveal.

Speaking to Italian website Multiplayer, Nomura expressed that he is quite aware that both these games were announced prematurely. If anything, Final Fantasy 7 Remake more than Kingdom Hearts III.

"I am well aware of the fact that we announced it too early, but even in the industry, word was beginning to spread that we were working on the game, so we just decided not to keep it more secret and officially reveal it."

Nomura's decision to reveal the game was a hasty one but it was mainly due to avoiding leaks and rumours of the development. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced in 2015 and Kingdom Hearts III in 2013. It has been a few years since then and Square Enix are working hard to get these games out. Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled for a 29 January 2019 release while the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has taken the backseat while Nomura wraps up the development of Kingdom Hearts III.

According to IGN, Nomura told them that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has moved past the concept stage and into full development. This was revealed at E3 2018 but it was not seen at all throughout the week. With Kingdom Hearts III almost done, there is no doubt that next year's E3 will be all about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
