Unscheduled Forza Horizon 4 PC preload reveals possible file size and detailed car list

One of the most thrilling reveals at E3 was Forza Horizon 4 with its spectacular seasons that "change everything" in the game. We saw players race in Autumn right into Winter with the whole landscape changing dynamically while they drive. It was truly exceptional to see what Playground Games has planned for Forza Horizon 4.

The Creative Director, Ralph Fulton, told IGN that the team managed to create "basically four worlds the size of Forza Horizon 3, in one." Of course, that begs the question, how big will the game's file size be, and not to mention the 4K assets for both the Xbox One X and PC versions.

For the first time, Xbox One X gamers will be able to play a Forza game at 60fps, servers will host up to 72 players, and the map of historic Britain is about the same size of Forza Horizon 3's Australia, yet rendered differently.

Players will race in a shared world and everyone will experience the seasons together.  No season will look the same in its next cycle, and each season will last approximately one week in real time. Districts include the Scottish Highlands, Edinburgh, and the Lake District, to name but a few, with over 450 licensed cars.

Over the weekend, some PC gamers who pre-ordered Forza Horizon 4 reported that they were able to start preloading the game. However, it looks like many also reported some glitch that sends the download into a never-ending loop with some saying they've downloaded over 140 GB.

The general consensus, however, seems to be that the Forza Horizon 4 PC download size is just over 90 GB. Even more interesting, is that a list leaked online showing over 400 cars that will feature in Forza Horizon 4. You can check out the full list here, but keep in mind that it is probably not every car that will feature in the game, and there might also be changes as the game nears its release date.

Since the leaked car list, some fans have raised concerns over the lack of Toyota representation, the seeming removal of some of the Austin Martin series, and the possibility of some signature cars locked behind paid DLC. I suggest you rather wait for Playground Games to officially confirm the car list.

Apparently, the preload was a mistake, so it's best to cancel that download and wait for the official announcement from Microsoft. That being said, for a 4K game, 90-100 GB does sound right. Forza Horizon 3's download size was 60 GB and Forza Motorsport 7 was 100GB. Another thing to consider is that Forza Horizon 4 releases on October 2, so that's still a few months away and I am sure Playground Games has some work left to do, and that means the download size could possibly be even bigger than 90 GB.

Forza responded to the PC preload with the following announcement via Twitter:

"Today, some of you noticed Forza Horizon 4 game files preloading on your PCs. This was not intended and you don’t have to do anything. The final game will download automatically when it is released. If you’d like, you can safely uninstall the downloaded files."
