EA at E3 2018: The top 5 most important announcements

E3 2018 EA.jpg

Last night, EA Play kicked off E3 2018 with some pretty big announcements. Yes, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield V is jumping on the battle royale bandwagon. We have the release date for the highly anticipated Anthem, and some exciting new game announcements.

1. Battlefield V

Royale is coming! We'll have more details about Battlefield V's battle royale mode in the coming days, all we know for now is that it will be called "Royale" and will be "reimagined with the core pillars of destruction, team play, and vehicles." As with every new battle royale announcement, EA DICE promises that it will be "unlike anything you've played before."

What I am more excited about though, is the multiplayer reveal, it looks fresh, exciting, and new but still with the Battlefield core mechanics fans so love about the game. I know that the South African Battlefield community doesn't favour the "Operations" mode from Battlefield 1, so they might be less excited to know that Grand Operations will be at the heart of Battlefield V's multiplayer experience. We'll have more details about Operations later today, so stay tuned.

For those who don't want to participate in Grand Operations, there's the standard "Conquest" with 64 players per side. Other multiplayer modes include "Breakthrough," "Frontlines," "Domination," and "Team Deathmatch." More details about each mode to follow.

2. Anthem

Anthem will release on 22 February 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders are now open and we'll publish the South African price list as soon as we have all those details.

The story trailer gives us a look at the origin of Anthem, as well as a glimpse into the story, characters, and monsters. More important is the gameplay trailer which we'll talk more about later today. The cinematic story trailer showcases "game engine footage" and it looks magnificent. The story begins with the announcement that "the gods vanished and left our world in chaos," all that remains that is strong enough to shield humanity against the ensuing chaos is the Anthem.

3. Unravel Two

Unravel (2016) was one of the most gripping tales we have ever played, and we're so excited that there's a sequel, Unravel Two, and you can play it right now. Unlike its predecessor, Unravel Two is a co-op adventure.

"Team up with Yarny in Unravel Two as you chase the spark of adventure. Form new bonds with friends in seamless local co-op, or create two Yarnys of your own and explore a blossoming world. Jump, slide, swing, and run faster than ever through beautiful natural landscapes and complex urban areas to solve challenging puzzles and watch your environment come to life."

4. FIFA 19

FIFA 19 launches on 28 September for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

FIFA fans will be delighted to know that FIFA 19 will launch with the UEFA Champions League, that is considered to be one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. Pre-ordering FIFA 19 gives you a three-day headstart, and we'll have your South African price list as soon as all the details become available.

"Achieve European glory with your favourite club in Career Mode or the all-new standalone UEFA Champions League mode. Discover the exciting finale of Alex Hunter's story in The Journey: Champions. Build your dream squad with live UEFA Champions League and Europa League content updates in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team. No matter where or how you play FIFA 19, you can experience the greatest club football competition in the world."

5. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Last, but not least, is the next Star Wars adventure from EA. For years we have been speculating about the Star Wars game from Respawn (formerly it was from Visceral), and now we know. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release in 2019, and will take place during the period after Revenge of the Sith.

"From Respawn Entertainment comes a brand-new action adventure game which tells an original Star Wars™ story around a surviving Padawan set shortly after the events of Star Wars™: Episode III - Revenge of the Stth."

We don't have much information about the game, all we know so far is that it will be a single-player experience, and set "in dark times."

Keep an eye on GameZone for more details to follow about Battlefield V and Anthem.
