Dota 2: Massive roster changes for Evil Geniuses and OG revealed

Dota 2 roster changes EG OG.jpg

Two fan-favourite Dota 2 pro teams, Evil Geniuses and OG, didn’t have a great season (to put it mildly) and right after the ESL One Birmingham Major completed, some big and somewhat expected announcements started to roll in.

First, Rasmus ‘MiSeRy’ Filipsen announced his departure from the organization on Twitter, stating that he has been kicked from EG and that he is both happy and relieved to be out. Shortly afterwards, something happened that I thought I would never see. Clinton ‘Fear’ Loomis (aka Old Man Fear), a cornerstone of the EG lineup, revealed that he is also off the EG Dota 2 roster.

Then, OG revealed that they will be releasing two players from their roster, two players that I would have never expected to leave, namely: Gustav "s4" Magnusson and Tal "Fly" Aizik. These two players will now fill the EG lineup and Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan will go back to his role in the mid position.

Evil Geniuses COO, Phillip Aram, talked about the roster change, stating that:

This is the hardest part of the season for every team that doesn't achieve the goals set for themselves. At EG, we had to take a hard look at how to get back to competing at the level we expect of ourselves.

Fear has been the bedrock of EG for many years, and he will continue to be a part of the this organization even as his playing career comes to an end today. For Misery, we only ever glimpsed the potential of how his leadership could elevate our roster, and his departure comes with the knowledge of a failed opportunity.

Looking to The International, we have agreed to receive Fly and S4 from OG to complete our roster. I could not be more excited about the potential of the group we have put together, and I know none of them take lightly the challenges ahead." - Source

With the massive change to the EG roster, their lineup for the remainder of the season now looks like this:

  • Artour “Arteezy” Babaev
  • Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan
  • Gustav "s4" Magnusson
  • Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen
  • Tal "Fly" Aizik
  • Sam “BuLba” Sosale (coach)

As for OG, there is no word yet about the two vacant slots in their roster, but it will be extremely hard to replace the legends Fly and s4. OG did make it clear that they would be withdrawing from the China Dota 2 Supermajor even though they were one of the surprising direct invites and will rather focus on the open qualifiers for The International 2018. Keep in mind that with these changes, both EG and OG are not eligible for a direct invite to The International 2018.
