Play the fan remake of Diablo II inside StarCraft II for free right now

Diablo II was, in my opinion, the pinnacle of the Diablo franchise and sometimes I still play the game to this day. That’s why The Curse of Tristram: Destruction’s End, created by Etienne Godbout, is such an exciting project for me and I am sure for many other Diablo II fans as well.

In case you didn't know, the base version of StarCraft II went free-to-play back in November last year, so everyone can play this awesome-looking StarCraft II mod right now as a public test server opened over the weekend. The mod is still a work in progress of course, so expect some bugs and glitches, but that is a small price to pay for experiencing Diablo II once again, this time inside one of the greatest RTS titles ever created.

The mod has been in development for four years and it is now ready for testing. The creator asks players to report bugs they find as he will continue to expand and improve on the mod and make it bigger and better. In this test version, there are six areas from the original Diablo II available for you to explore as well as seven classes to choose from. The six areas are:

  • The Rogue Encampment
  • The Cold Plains
  • The Crypt
  • The Stony Field
  • The Den of Evil
  • The Blood Moor

Diablo II fans probably just got shivers running down their spine in excitement for some of the areas listed, as I know I did with Blood Moor. The mod also includes new difficulty modes. The heroic mode does what you would expect it to do, adding stronger enemies and equipment, as well as “world curses” which deactivates health regeneration as an example. Then, there is also a Mythic mode that needs to be unlocked, so not much is known about the mode yet, but what we do know is that it makes all bosses much stronger and also has “world events” which sound quite interesting.

So how do you play The Curse of Tristram: Destruction’s End? Well, that is quite simple. All you need to do is log into StarCraft II, head on over to the Custom Modes tab and search for “The Curse of Tristram” under Arcade maps.

You then create a custom game and even invite your friends to join in for some co-op action, because we all know that Diablo II is best played with friends.

Check out The Curse of Tristram: Destruction’s End in action in the video below and then tell us if you will be giving this StarCraft II mod a shot in the comment section.
