Nintendo Switch Online - Date, pricing and free games announced

Nintendo Switch Online.jpg

Nintendo's Online Service has been through a rough time of late. First announced before the Switch launched, the service was meant to be live late in 2017 but was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Nintendo then announced that the service would launch in 2018 but we did not know when until today. The company have revealed pricing plans for the service as well as what it will cost you for a family membership as well as what incentives we will get with the packages.

Pricing

According to Nintendo, the service will cost you different rates depending on how long you subscribe to. If anything, it is extremely cheap and most package options will not even cost you over R100.

  • 1 Months - $3,99
  • 3 Months - $7,99
  • 12 Months - $19,99
  • Family membership 12 months - $34,99

The Family Membership allows up to seven other people to join the group. All members of the group will have access to the service and incentives.

Free Games

Of course, the service will boast free NES games. While Nintendo did promise SNES games, they have not revealed any information about them as of yet. All we know is that there will be 20 NES games to download and play when the service launches in September 2018. So far they have confirmed the following games;

  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Donkey Kong
  • Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • Dr. Mario
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Super Mario Bros. 3

Nintendo also revealed that the service will offer save data cloud backups, special discounts to subscribers (similar to PS+ and Xbox Gold), and of course online play which means you will need to be a subscriber in order to race online in Mario Kart 8, ink people in Splatoon, or fight other players in the upcoming Super Smash Bros for Switch.

The service seems to pack a whole lot of value and considering its cost, it should not make a dent in your wallet at all. Most monthly pricings are so low that you will not even get an SMS about it going off your bank account. While there is no set date for the launch of the service, we know it is in September and Nintendo will reveal more at E3 2018.
