Dota 2: ESL One Birmingham direct invites now complete with Mineski

mineski.jpg

This past weekend, Mineski became the first Southeast Asia (SEA) team to win a Dota 2 Major by defeating Chinese juggernauts LGD Gaming in a thrilling grand finale that went the distance. With the win, Mineski is now in fourth place in the Dota Pro Circuit rankings with 3150 points and is edging ever closer to a The International 2018 direct invite.

Before The International 2018, there are still four Majors to go as well as one Minor. One of the tournaments I am personally looking forward to the most is ESL One Birmingham, which will be the first ever Dota 2 Major taking place in the UK. Due to their recent success at DAC 2018 Major, Mineski has received the final direct invite to ESL One Birmingham as revealed by the Electronic Sports League (ESL) in an announcement.

With the announcement, we now have all the direct invites to the tournament and the competition looks extremely fierce already, as you can see below:

  • Evil Geniuses
  • Virtus.pro
  • Newbee
  • Team Liquid
  • ViCi Gaming
  • Mineski

Apart from the direct invites, there are another six slots left that will be filled with teams who go through the qualifiers for the 12-team tournament, which has a prize pool of 1$ Million and 1500 DPC Points to fight for. With the announcement, the ESL praises the recent success of Mineski, stating that:

The team of the hour has just finished an amazing run at DAC 2018, securing themselves their first Major trophy of the Dota Pro Circuit. Thanks to their recent success, their victory at the PGL Open Bucharest Minor at the start of the season and a couple of Top 4 finishes, they have now passed the likes of Newbee and Vici Gaming for fourth place in the current DPC rankings, giving them a comfortable position when it comes to TI8 invites. But with a number of big tournaments still on the horizon, it’s too early to celebrate for Mineski, as every performance counts.” – Source
