The Witcher dev teases a crossover for Geralt that will release later this year

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was one of the best games ever made by developer CD Projekt Red, and one of the best role-playing games of all time. It was praised by fans and critics alike and collected over 800 awards. It was also the curtain call for Geralt of Rivia as the lead character in a Witcher game.

News has now surfaced that confirms The Witcher 3 wasn't Geralt's last hunt after all. Marcin Momot, Community Lead at CD Projekt Red asked the following question via Twitter. "What if Geralt was going to step out of the @witchergame for the very first time to make an appearance in one of the upcoming games later this year?"

The big question now is, of course, which game? Looking at our list of confirmed games to release in 2018, only one jumps out, Soulcalibur VI. Geralt making a guest appearance in a fighting game celebrating its 20th anniversary this year is very likely, especially since the series is known for allowing guest characters to make an appearance. The Legend of Zelda's Link was a playable character in Soulcalibur II's GameCube version, while Spawn (comic books) released on the Xbox version and Tekken's Heihachi on the PlayStation 2. The tradition continued in Soulcalibur III with KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga series, while Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia made an appearance in Soulcalibur Legends. Soulcalibur IV had a range of iconic Star Wars characters as guests, while Soulcalibur V had Assassin's Creed II's Ezio as a guest fighter.

The above tradition is a clear indication that Soulcalibur VI will have guest appearances, the only question is from which video game(s). According to Let's Play Video Games, they had previous confirmation that it would be Geralt. "A few weeks ago, anonymous sources contacted LPVG with this information. However, while we have vetted the sources to be legitimate, acquiring the further evidence required for publication proved difficult. Until today, that is." The "today" refers to the tweet from Momot.

One other thing gives credence to the idea of Geralt as a playable character in Soulcalibur VI; the fact that Bandai Namco, who is the publisher for Soulcalibur VI, also distributed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in Europe. We’ve worked with NAMCO BANDAI Games before, so our partners there know both The Witcher and the ideals that drive us as a studio. We’re convinced that they understand our vision for the game and that they will do a great job at letting gamers know how the game’s open world and great story are going to change the next-gen RPG landscape,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD Projekt RED in a 2014 press release.

If not Soulcalibur VI, then what? According to the Twitter feed of the initial announcement by Momot, some fans are hoping for a Monster Hunter World event, similar to the Aloy's Horizon Zero Dawn event, but that can be discounted immediately as Momot clearly stated it would be an upcoming game.

What do you think, will it be Soulcalibur VI, or do you have some wild idea you would like to share with us?
