Dota 2: ESL One Katowice will get an extra match after community uproar

The Electronic Sports League (ESL) is renowned for creating some of the biggest and best tournaments for Dota 2. However, the organization has been in the naughty books of some fans after it was announced last month that CS: GO and Dota 2 tournaments hosted by ESL would be streamed exclusively on Facebook.

With the upcoming ESL One Katowice Dota 2 Major, the ESL again angered the community due to fans saying that not enough matches would be played in front of an audience. The ESL then promised to look into the matter and it turns out they did, as they listened to the community and announced a third-place matchup.

In a statement on Reddit, the ESL announced that:

ESL One Katowice is fast approaching and here's some new info.

We recognize the interest from the community in getting more Dota matches played in front of the live audience. Today we are happy to tell you that a 3rd place match-up has been added to the event. This match will be played at the Spodek arena on Sunday 25th February in a best-out-of-three series.

A bigger slice of the prize-money pool and valuable Pro Circuit points counting towards The International 8 is up for grabs for the winner of the match. The grand final of ESL One will go live at 15:00 CET. The two last teams standing will do battle through a best-of-five-series.” - Source

It is great to see the ESL listening to the community and more Dota 2 matches is always a good thing, especially when they put bigger prize money and Pro Circuit points into that third place. That means the two teams who will face off for the third place should give provide us with an exciting match to watch.

Will you be watching ESL One Katowice next weekend and what do you think about ESL’s response to the community? Let us know in the comment section below.
