Sicario 2 Director Stefano Sollima joins the Call of Duty movie

According to Variety, Sicario 2 director Stefano Sollima is preparing to take over the Call of Duty movie. Sollima is currently in talks with Activision Blizzard about directing the video game adaption that was first announced back in 2015. Activision Blizzard opened their own movie studio just to make movies based on their well-known videogame franchises and Call of Duty is the next one in the pipeline.

You will remember Warcraft from two years ago was also produced under this studio. If Stefano Sollima does take the job as Director then Activision will officially begin production on the first Call of Duty film after filling other slots such as a writer, producer and distributor.

Variety reports that the upcoming film will not be based on any current Call of Duty plots rather it will have an original storyline and script. Sollima's current film, Sicario 2, does sort of look like a Call of Duty film so you could see why Activision looked at him when searching for a director for the Call of Duty film.

Sollima's other work includes Suburra and the ingrossing Gomorrah show. I actually binged this during December last year and loved it. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this all pans out but if you ask me, I wish Activision would put their foot on the pedal with the planning and production of the film as I would love to see how it all turns out. Given that they first announced the project back in 2015 does not show much confidence in film adaption at all.
