Monsters are coming to Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Seige Outbreak.jpg

If you are tired of killing other humans in Rainbow Six Siege then you will be happy to know that the game will be receiving some cool sci-fi features in the coming weeks. The new Outbreak event will see players fighting mutated monsters that are a mix of aliens and zombies.

According to a Ubisoft blog post, these creatures are indeed monsters and range from five types of different "profiles". The game modes will see three operators head into the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, to eliminate the threat.

Grunts

Grunts are common hostiles that become highly resistant when the parasite detects an enemy presence. To protect its host, the parasite armours its body and becomes more resistant to bullet wounds. Caution and stealth are recommended.

Breachers

Breachers are proximity bombs that crater anything in their path. They make for a very agile opponent, but they launch themselves into the fray and blow holes in indestructible walls. Make sure you are nowhere close to them.

Rooters

Rooters are a rarer type of hostile. They send out coral spikes from the ground to injure and immobilize their targets. Rooters are always on the move and will keep you on edge. Beware when dealing them the final blow; they become extremely lethal when on the brink of death. - Not to be confused with Hooters.

Smashers

Smashers are not discreet. The parasite reinforces its body under a massively thick hide, making it practically impervious to bullet wounds. They will also tear down walls without suffering any injuries.

Apex

Apex is at the top of the hostile food chain. It sends waves of hostiles your way rather than attack you head-on. They can hurl blinding projectiles, which can only be countered by Finka and Doc. This opponent is a real test of your team’s communication skills.

Ubisoft says that these five monsters will use their combined abilities and powers to try and eliminate you and your team so you need to make sure you are prepared. The Outbreak event marks the beginning of the start of Year 3 for Rainbow Six Siege and will launch on the test server on 20 February 2018. The event will be playable from 6 March right up until 3 April 2018 for all players.

The mode will bring with it three new exclusive co-op levels that are bigger and more open than what players are used to in the past. These will also be more linear to allow for a clear sense of progression in the game. The game will still make sure to deliver the same tactical gameplay you are used to while offering new challenges and these new monsters to kill. You will be able to head into the missions with the following operators.

  • The two new Operation Chimera Operators
  • Smoke
  • Ying
  • Buck
  • Kapkan
  • Ash
  • Doc
  • Tachanka
  • Glaz
  • And last but not least, our faithful Recruit!

Ubisoft will also be releasing 50 cosmetic items for your characters. These include headgear, charms, skins and more. There will also be cosmetic-only loot boxes for the event which you can purchase if you want to get more of this gear. The event will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC and if you don't get into the test server you can wait until it launches on 6 March 2018.
