Activision confirms Treyarch will develop Call of Duty 2018 and reveals release window

Earlier this week, we reported on a leak by an industry insider, which suggested that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be the next game in the franchise. As it turns out, mega-publisher Activision has now confirmed that Treyarch, known for the Black Ops series, will indeed develop Call of Duty 2018. The confirmation happened during the publisher’s fourth quarter financial conference call, as reported by GameSpot.

Then, Treyarch Studios said the following on Twitter:

Looking forward to the year ahead. . . we can’t wait to share more!” - Source

Treyarch, we can’t wait for you to share more information with us as well! We might have to wait a couple of months more for details on the game, which is all but confirmed to be Black Ops 4. The conference call did reveal the release window for the game as Q4 2018, which means it can be anywhere from October to December. It is expected that more information will be shared around April or May, hopefully leading up to a full reveal at E3.

Treyarch has done an excellent job with the Black Ops series so far and has delivered some of our favourite Call of Duty games, as well as the awesome Zombie mode. Last year, Marco reviewed Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie Chronicles and loved it, which just goes to show that Treyarch has remained heavily invested in the Black Ops franchise.

The news also means that Activision is holding strong with their 3-year development cycle, with Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward rotating as the main developer on the Call of Duty franchise. Unfortunately, Black Ops 4 was still not specifically named and although we have a release window now, we have no further details to share about the next Call of Duty.

There was also no mention in the conference call about the Nintendo Switch version suggested by the rumour earlier this week, but it seems more likely than ever now since a big part of the leak already turned out to be true.

What do you think about the Call of Duty: Black Ops series and are you excited for the next game by Treyarch? Let us know in the comment section below.
