Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition announced - Includes new game content and first person mode

It has been over a year since the awesome Final Fantasy XV released and to be honest I have not touched the game since I got the platinum trophy for it a month after release. Well, seems like I will be playing Final Fantasy XV in March as Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition, the ultimate package of the experience. Now, before you think it is simply a GOTY edition, think again, as the sheer amount of content that has been added is truly awesome. The Royale Edition will come with new game content, chapters, all the Season Pass DLC, as well as a first-person mode too.

According to the official site, the Royale Edition will include:

  • An all-new dungeon - Insomnia City Ruins: Expanded Map
  • New features such as first-person mode, new gear, and new bosses.
  • Armiger Unleashed – after you collect all 13 royal arms, a more action-oriented mode of the Armiger is unlocked
  • Royal Vessel – the boat from FFXV is now a controllable vehicle. The same body of water (between Cape Caem and Altissia) can now be freely explored.
  • All season pass content – Episode Gladiolus, Episode Prompto, Multiplayer Expansion: Comrades, and Episode Ignis.
  • Over a dozen pieces of DLC, including weapons, Regalia car skins, and item sets.
  • The critically acclaimed game – FINAL FANTASY XV.

The reveal trailer puts more emphasis on the above but the content looks great from what I saw in the trailer. I am excited about the bosses as they seem to be the hardest in the game. Also the first-person mode because who does not want to walk around that gorgeous world like it's Skyrim?

The Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition will be sold as a standalone experience and it will be releasing on 6 March for PS4 and Xbox One. Gamers who already own the main game will be able to upgrade their standard edition to the Royal Edition for $19,99 (roughly R250). This will unlock all of the above content. As for the Windows Edition, it will come with all the new content too when it releases on 6 March 2018. Check out the PC requirements for the Windows Edition here

Unfortunately, this is where current Season Pass owners will be screwed over as the Royal Edition content is not included in the current Season Pass. If you want the new content you will have to buy the upgrade like everyone else and in theory, pay for the Episode DLC again. While it is only $19,99, let's hope Square Enix offers a separate upgrade model for those who already own the Season Pass. Still, if you have not played Final Fantasy XV then this is the edition you want to get. Take a look at the trailer below.
