New Far Cry 5 trailer showcases co-op and emergent gameplay

Far Cry 5 is one of our top three most anticipated games of 2018. It promises a concoction of religion, violence, and politics that screams controversy, and for that, Hope County already has me hooked.

Having said that, when it comes to gaming, things like gameplay is king, and the latest video gives us a look at what players can expect from the co-op, player choice, and we also see some gameplay showing interaction with Hope County's diverse animal life.

I am cautious that it's just 'hype-talk,' but according to Far Cry 5 Creative Director, Dan Hay, it's difficult to predict what happens when people play the game. “The game is organic; it pushes back on its own.” Hay goes on to explain that it's near impossible to predict what happens next in Far Cry 5.

When it comes to interaction with the games' AI, Hay first talks about the immense number of characters players will meet. Previous Far Cry games had about 18-20 AI's that could directly interact with the player; in Far Cry 5 that number currently sits at over 65, and that's not counting AI that's scattered on the outskirts of the game.

"Everyone has a job, an opinion a purpose, and they all want to contribute to your cause," continues Hay. He also explains the diversity of your squad members . and how communication changes depending on the active members. Some of the banter between the different squad members are “amazing,” says Hay.

Far Cry 5's co-op is one of its most attractive features, and as the video shows, it's going to a hella lot of fun. In the video, we see some aerial gameplay with Associate Producer, Philippe Fournier. He also explains how one player can, for example, can choose to fly, while the other player uses a vehicle.

“We wanted to put as much freedom into the hands of the player as possible,” explains Fournier. “You step into any situation, and you approach it in a certain way.”

Lastly, we see some combat with Hope County's wildlife, as well as the rescue of a dog which in turn unlocks the "Fangs for Hire" feature. So far, the game promises to offer the most engaging Far Cry of the franchise.

Far Cry 5 releases on March 27 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
