Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will make its way to PC next month

Last year, Square Enix released a remaster of the PS2 classic, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age for PS4 owners. Marco explored the world of Ivalice and called the remaster a “stunning package that feels like a solid Final Fantasy experience regardless of its age”, recommending the game as a must play. I felt a little sad for PC gamers, as I used to be a PC only gamer myself and therefore couldn’t experience many of the titles in the Final Fantasy franchise (FFXV is coming to PC in “early 2018”).

Now, I am extremely excited to report that Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will make its way to PC (via Steam) on 1 February this year. It is, of course, going to be the remastered version with all the extra bells and whistles you would expect, including the enhanced graphics found on the PS4 version, a remastered soundtrack, the new Trial Mode, an auto-save feature, faster loading times and much more.

Further, the following new features (as per a Press Release) have also been added for PC gamers:

  • 60FPS - Ivalice will look better than ever with the game running at 60FPS.
  • Compatible with 21:9 ultra-wide monitors - Up to three HD monitors can be used for a potential 48(16x3):9 experience.
  • New Game Plus and New Game Minus - Post-game content modes are now accessible from the beginning of the game.
  • Three background music options – The original, re-orchestrated and soundtrack versions are now available from the beginning of the game.
  • Maximized License Points and Gil - New functionality added to grant players max License Points and Gil from the configuration screen.
  • Full controller support, Steam Trading Cards and more to optimize the PC player experience.

With all the enhancements and glorious 60FPS gameplay, it sure looks like Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age PC Edition will be the definitive edition of the game and something no Final Fantasy fan should miss out on.

System Requirements and Price

The game will set you back $49.99 according to the Press Release, with no local pricing appearing on the game's Steam page just yet, we can’t say for sure, but I suspect it will cost around R600 for local gamers. You won’t need a monster PC to run the game either, as the minimum specifications look quite low. However, the recommended specifications are relatively high, but that could be for players who want a smooth 60FPS experience with all settings on high.
