Nintendo Switch is no doubt the best console of 2017

Nintendo is no doubt on a roll with its latest and greatest console, the Nintendo Switch. Releasing back in March this year, we were all a bit concerned about the state of its library of games. Seven months later and the Nintendo Switch has the best first-year lineup in gaming history with the likes of Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, ARMS, and not to forget the vast list of indie games that have turned the Switch into a portable indie machine.

In October alone, Super Mario Odyssey took first place in physical sales during that month and this is huge considering that the game releases on 27 October and went up against games like Assassin's Creed: Origins, and Shadow of War which released two weeks before. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came in at #10, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #11. Considering these games have been out for a few months is a huge deal and Nintendo did not participate in any major Black Friday sales so this was purely off retail sales. Keep in mind that the NPD numbers are harder to read due to the fact that Nintendo does not participate in these sales, so the digital numbers could mean an even greater success for the platform.

As for the hardware sales, Nintendo has been knocking off the PS4 and Xbox One monthly. In November, Nintendo accounted for two-thirds of all hardware sold for the second month in a row. Nintendo also recently increased its projected Switch sales from 10 million to 14 million units sold by March 2018. For a console that is pretty hard to find in the US, these figures are staggering.

As of 31 October, the Switch is sitting on 7.6 million units sold, so that 14 million projected sales figure is more realistic than you think. As for software, Nintendo reports that the sales were on 27 million in October so they should no doubt be close to 30 million by the end of the year. Breath of the Wild alone has pushed close to 5 million units which means that more than half of every Switch owner has purchased the game.

With all that being said, to not own a Switch now is to miss out on these awesome games. We reviewed everything the Switch had on offer this year and we were never disappointed by anything we played. Super Mario Odyssey is great, The Breath of the Wild is gorgeous, Mario Kart 8 is simply the most fun you will have in years, ARMS is a refreshing new fighting game, and let us not forget the amazing Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Everything that makes the Switch so great is in its hardware thanks to its great portability and the way it easily transitions from the TV in console mode, to your hand by just pulling it out of the dock. The Switch makes gaming on the go unbelievably fun and immersive thanks to its powerful graphics chip and great screen. It just works so well. We also stand by our opinion that the Switch is the only console to buy this Christmas as 2018 is going to be an even better year for the platform.
