Battlerite is the new free-to-play smash hit on Steam

We all know about the success of PUBG and free-to-play titles like Dota 2, but have you ever heard of Battlerite? Late last week, Battlerite moved out of Early Access into a full release last week. The Swedish developer, Stunlock Studios, has since then seen amazing success with their Arena Brawler.

According to a Press Release, it is now the number 2 “top selling” free-to-play game on Steam after just 5 days and top of the “new and trending” list since it launched last week. But that’s not all. On Sunday, the game already reached the number 10 spot on the “top games by current player count” on Steam with over 45,000 players in-game at the same time.

Arguably the most impressive feat is that at a certain point since launch, the game got the number 3 spot of most-watched games on Twitch with almost 75,000 users, beating the giants PUBG and Dota 2 at that time. You can join the legion of players enjoying Battlerite today by downloading it for free from on Steam.

Peter Ilves, the Game Director at Stunlock Studios, had this to say about the game’s success:

"We are humbled and grateful to see the overwhelming numbers of players enjoying Battlerite. All our previous game records have been broken and it’s the greatest acknowledgment a developer could ask for. We want to thank our community for all the support and patience throughout the development and the first days post free-to-play launch.

Battlerite’s initial reception

I haven’t personally had the chance of playing the game yet, but from the gameplay and all the streams going up, it does sound fantastic. The game has seen some awesome reviews from critics as well as players on Steam. After nearly 30 000 user reviews on Steam, the game has an overall “Very Positive” review rating.

  • PC Gamer states: “Battlerite is the best teamfight you've ever had”
  • Ten Ton Hammer states: “Battlerite is exceptional. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s the best battle arena game”

With such great words and comments from critics as well as Steam users, I think it is safe to say that Battlerite is worth checking out. Even for those on the fence about the game, it is free-to-play, so there is really no reason not to see for yourself.
