November game releases.jpg

The last big month in gaming for the year is upon us. Not only will we get treated to some of 2017's biggest releases, but we will also see the entrance of the first native 4K console into the market; the Xbox One X. We'll cover the release of the X in a separate article closer to its launch on November 7.

Call of Duty: WWII

Release date: 03/11 WW

Platforms: PC, PS4 & Xbox One

Genre: First-person shooter

Modes: Single-player, multiplayer

Age restriction: M for Mature 17+

Rated for: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language. Online not rated

Game info: Sledgehammer takes fans back to the era of World War II, something Call of Duty fans have been wanting for years. There will be a strong single-player campaign, which focuses on the controversial story of a squad of US soldiers who get taken captive by the Nazis. You play as 19-year old private Ronald “Red” Daniels, who sees his best friend, Private First Class Robert Zussman, a Jew, being captured. He wants to set aside the war and rescue his friend and the other squad members.

When it comes to the multiplayer side, if you pre-ordered the game you’ll have a big advantage come day one as you get the exclusive perk of picking any weapon right from the start. That aside, there’s a lot of things that will be different with this year’s Call of Duty, you can read about all the changes here and here.

Nioh: The Complete Edition

Release date: 07/11 WW

Platform: PC

Genre: Action, RPG

Modes: Single-player, multiplayer

Age restriction: M for Mature 17+

Rated for: Blood and Gore, Violence. Online not rated

Game info: Our reviewer described the console version of Nioh, as “a masterpiece and PlayStation 4 sleeper hit.” He went so far as to say that it was the best game he has ever played. It’s both exceptionally challenging and incredibly satisfying to play, and the PC version promises to be even better. The game will have two visual modes to choose from that will offer 60FPS mode which is called the Action Mode, and a Cinematic Mode that can expand the display resolution to 4K. Be warned though, Nioh isn’t for everyone, if you’re a “souls” fan, then you’ll love it.

Need for Speed Payback

Release date: 10/11 WW

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Genre: Racing

Modes: Single-player, multiplayer

Age restriction: TBA

Game info:  Prepare for an “explosive adventure” with Need for Speed Payback. As the name suggests, revenge is the name of the game, and players will control three distinct characters who whom have a score to settle. That’s on the campaign side for NFSP.

Need For Speed Payback's car customization is divided into three main sections; find parts scattered throughout the world, collect all the specified parts to turn your scrap into stock, and turn your scrap into a super build car. Your vehicle is the main attraction in Need for Speed, so you'll want to customize it to showcase your driving style and personality in the Payback. As with previous instalments, you'll be able to customize just about every part of your ride.

You'll also unlock rewards when you win races that you can use to upgrade your car. Customization ranges from applying bling to changing what's under the hood - and then some. There are 5 distinct car classes in Payback; Race, Drift, Off-road, Drag, and Runner. You can change your ride by collecting scrap, winning rewards, or purchasing goodies.

L.A. Noire Remastered

Release date: 14/11 WW

Platforms: PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Genre: Action-adventure

Mode: Single-player

Age restriction: M for Mature 17+

Rated for: Blood and Gore, Nudity, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Use of Drugs, Violence

Game info: Rockstar Games' L.A. Noire (2011) was one of the best detective games I’ve ever played. The remastered version adds 4K resolution for console, and according to Rockstar the console versions "capture the grit and grime of the City of Angels like never before." LA. Noire is an action-adventure detective game, with a perfect blend of puzzle solving, story, action and dialogue. It would be the perfect game to play on the Switch, especially if you want to game on the go.

Star Wars Battlefront II

Release date: 17/11 WW

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Genre: First-person shooter, third-person shooter

Modes: Single-player, multiplayer

Age restriction: T for Teen

Rated for: Mild Language, Violence. Online not rated

Game info: Battlefront II promises to be the Star Wars games fans have been asking for; we finally get a single-player campaign (from the perspective of an elite Imperial soldier), the space battle will be even more epic than its predecessor, there won’t again be ridiculously expensive DLCs, and everything just looks large-than-life. Except, the campaign is reportedly very short, and there are a few concerns about microtransactions. I suggest you wait for reviews before you purchase the game, unless you have a shiny new Xbox One X and you want to experience the promised “enhanced” version.
