Sony to publish games on the Nintendo Switch

In a perfect world, we would have Mario on PlayStation and Uncharted on Nintendo but we don't live in a perfect world so that will never happen. What could happen is that one-day rival game makers could publish their games on the competitor's console if they do it under a different name. Enter Unties, not to be confused with the popular term "hunties", slang for honey. This new publishing label has been formed under Sony Music Entertainment and will be used to publish games across other platforms and not just PlayStation.

Sony Music announced that Unties first games will be Tiny Metal from the developer Area35. The game will come to PS4, PC, and now thanks to the ability to publish across platforms, Nintendo Switch too. The game will launch on 21 November and is a military-themed turn-based strategy game powered by the Unreal Engine.

The drive to create Unties is to invest more time and effort into the indie space and give games more exposure on different platforms not restricted to just Sony's devices. Unties role with Sony will be to search for "high-quality" indie games that can be published that stick out amongst the rest in the over-saturated indie market.

Unties will do more than just that as the firm will be solely responsible for PR and sales of these games across platforms too. Sony says that Unties was created in response to the "indie game movement centred around North America that has been drawing attention even within Japan." Tiny Metal, Last Standard, Merkava Avalanche, and Deemo -Reborn- are just a few titles Unties will be handling in the next few months and now that they can, expect them to land on various platforms.

Sony releasing games on other platforms? I never thought I would see the day. What do you make of all this? Let us know in the comments below.
