10 things you have to do at rAge 2017

rAge 2017.jpg

rAge 2017 is this weekend and the hype is real. Everyone is running around like maniacs in the media and the local gaming scene to make sure that it all looks and feels as epic as every year. Trust us, this expo is not created overnight and a huge thank you goes out to every person involved in it. But what is actually happening at rAge this year that you need to pay attention to? Well for starters so much! That is why I have put together a guide of the top 10 things you simply have to do at rAge this year even if you have to attend every day.

1. Try the Xbox One X

rAge 2017 (1).jpg

If there is one thing in the industry that everyone is talking about right now it is the Xbox One X. Microsoft's 4K console will be at rAge and I have confirmation that you will be able to play Forza Motorsport 7 in gorgeous 4K 60FPS. Assassin's Creed: Origins will also be there for you to bask in its Egyptian 4K glory. I have seen both of these games running on the X back at E3 2017 and I promise you once you have seen it, you cannot unsee it.

2. Play the local games at Home_Coded

The best thing about rAge is its awesome support for the local gaming scene and rAge 2017 will host the biggest Home_Coded section we have seen in a while. Mattador Starfish, The Adventures of Sam Carlisle: The Hunt for the Lost Treasure, Jengo from Robot Wizard, and Celestial Games will be doing a live game development showcase throughout rAge. Last but not least Organosphere will also be at rAge this year. If you don't know, we visited these developers a while back and tested out their survival horror game set in the streets of Johannesburg. All of these games are a must to try out.

3. Eat mini doughnuts

Guys, eat those mini doughnuts. They taste good, they are cheap and unhealthy, but we don't care.

4. Buy a Collector's Edition

rAge 2017 (6).jpg

Every year BT Games has a massive clearance sale of all their Collector's Edition which has been left over from the past few months. These sell for next to nothing and if you are into collecting these then rAge is the best time to do so. I have picked up some pretty cool versions over the years. Last year was DOOM at R699, the year before was ESO for R499, and one year I even grabbed a copy of the Uncharted 3 Collector's Edition for R399. Whatever you do, withdraw all your money and spend it there.

5.Visit the PlayStation Stand and try PlayLink

PlayStation will have quite a presence as usual and this year they will be pushing PlayLink, which is Sony's new party game that everyone can participate in without the need for a controller. These games are played with a smartphone and by downloading the app and after that, everyone can jump into the game and participate. While only That's You! has released up to now, I know that Hidden Agenda is due for release later this month and my favourite of all, Frantics, will be out early next year. Still on the fence about PlayLink? Try it at rAge.

6. Play Assassin's Creed: Origins

rAge 2017 (3).jpg

As I mentioned before, Assassin's Creed: Origins will be playable at rAge in 4K on the Xbox One X. If there is only one thing you get to do there, make sure it is this. Assassin's Creed: Origins acts as a prequel to the series but it is more like a reboot in my eyes. It will take players through ancient Egypt as you discover the origin of the Assassin Brotherhood and, of course, try and stop the Templars once again from stealing the Apple of Eden.

7. Buy more things

rAge 2017 (2).png

It goes without saying that if you are in the market for anything gaming related, then rAge is the best place to splurge on things. Games, hardware, and tech prices will be slashed and discounted for you to take advantage of it all. In past years PC hardware has been a steal at rAge. RAM, SSD, graphics cards, cases and more are cheaper than ever so if you are in the mood to buy a new PC or perhaps upgrade one then this would be a perfect time. Besides that, merchandise is also one of the best parts about rAge, so always be on the lookout for t-shirts, cards, collectables and more.

8. Watch a gaming tournament

rAge 2017 (2).jpg

Esports at rAge will be just as big as past years and we know that Kwese is working on some cool Hearthstone tournaments, and most of all they will be hosting the ESL at rAge 2017. The ESL will be the biggest show of rAge this year as it will see four of the biggest African teams fight it out to crown this year's CS: GO champion. Kwese has also flown in renowned casters Pansy Scott, and Jason Moses O'Toole to Shoutcast the big event. This will surely be one you don't want to miss out on.

9. Fiddle with the tech you will never be able to afford

Make sure you see and play with all the fancy tech that you will never afford, or just refuse to buy. rAge plays host to some epic tech showcase stands especially in the PC gaming market with the likes of MSI, ASUS, Alienware and more showing off their most expensive and powerful gaming laptops and hardware. What are you waiting for? Play with the stuff, you will never be able to again.

10. Play all the GAMES!!!

rAge 2017 (4).jpg

Besides what I mentioned above, rAge is SA's biggest gaming event and the games are the best part about it. Make sure to play everything. Right now we know that the list is growing of titles that will be at the show, so whenever you get a chance just make sure you wait in line and try something. Assassin's Creed: Origins, COD: WW2, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Wolfenstein II, Shadow of War, Super Mario Odyssey and more will be there, so play them okay!

11. Watch the cosplay

rAge.jpg

It is rAge so why not have eleven things right? Every year the cosplay at rAge grows beyond everyone's expectations and this year with the inclusion of cosplay parades every day, and of course, the main cosplay competition showdown on Sunday, rAge's cosplay will be even better than ever. Throughout the weekend you will get to see all sorts of characters from all aspects of the gaming and anime industry, so why not ask politely for a snap when you see someone you love? It will be like meeting your all-time favourite character....sort of.

Will you be attending rAge 2017? What do you recommend doing without failure? Let us know in the comments below.
