Rumour: First potential detail about Call of Duty 2018 surface

Since publisher Activision has a three-year rotating developer schedule for Call of Duty titles, it means that Treyarch will have their shot at a new Call of Duty game next year. Call of Duty: WWII, developed by Sledgehammer, isn’t even out yet, but we might just have our first detail about the next game in the franchise.

It looks like the next Call of Duty will be going back to modern times, which might not come as a surprise for some fans. The rumour comes from a job listing page on Activision’s website for a Systems Designer (Combat) for developer Treyarch.

The job listing doesn’t give much indication of what the game will entail, except for one line, which you can view below.

There is no indication that it could be a new Modern Warfare as some fans are suggesting, except for the use of the word “modern”. However, it is clear that this job listing points towards the game not having a historical setting.

The reason I bring up the idea of a “historical setting” is that we recently learned that Call of Duty: WWII probably won’t be the last time the game goes back to the past, so some fans might have hoped that the next Call of Duty would take on another historical era.

Now, this is pure speculation, but the game will likely be Call of Duty: Black Ops III. I speculate this because the job listing also mentions “Prestige 1 or above in Black Ops 3 Multiplayer” and Treyarch did develop all the Black Ops franchise.

What do you think about Call of Duty possibly going back to the modern era next year? Let us know in the comment section below.
