PlayStation Plus gets stellar July free games lineup

PS Plus July 2017.jpg

For once, the PlayStation Plus monthly free games lineup far surpasses that of Games with Gold. Yesterday, we talked about how July's Xbox Games with Gold are not as good as we hoped, and today we're happy to say that the PlayStation Plus offering is even better than what we expected. Subscribers will not get the amazing lineup that Japan subscribers were promised - but I dare say, it might even be better as we'll get more than one great game.

Leaving PlayStation Plus

  • Killing Floor 2 (PS4)
  • Life Is Strange (PS4)
  • Abyss Odyssey (PS3)
  • WRC 5: World Rally Championship(PS3)
  • Neon Chrome (PSVita)
  • Spy Chameleon (PSVita)

Entering PlayStation Plus

  • Until Dawn (PS4)
  • Telltale's Game of Thrones (PS4)
  • That's You (PS4)
  • Tokyo Jungle (PS3)
  • Darkstalkers Resurrection (PS3)
  • Element41 (PSVita)
  • Don’t Die, Mr. Robot (PS Vita & cross buy PS4)

If you're a horror game fan, then you'll have a lot of 'fun' with Until Dawn. "Until Dawn isn’t trying to be original in its story, but is original in how it tells the story. What makes it original is a central feature of the game known as the Butterfly Effect, based on an illustration by scientist and pioneer of chaos theory, Edward Lorenz. That is, according to Lorenz and others’ theory, the flap of a butterfly's wings on one side of the world could be part of a series of causes that lead to a tornado elsewhere. In terms of story, that means one tiny choice leads to a devastating consequence or different state later." From our review Until Dawn: The new canvas of horror. The other game I am excited about is Telltale's Game of Thrones. Few developers can tell a story as well as Telltale and have players rethink their in-game choices.

However great the above two games, my most anticipated July PlayStation Plus title is the social game, "That's You!" You and three friends just hook up your mobile phones to the PS4, and you're ready for the best game night in July. "The only thing you need to know is each other," and the game revolves around answering questions about other players. It can also include things like making up a photo of another player that best describes something about him or her, and involves a lot of (distorted) selfies and making good fun of each other. Read more about the game here.
