New Vampyr trailer: The man and the monster

Dontnod's 2015 hit, Life Is Strange collected a phenomenal 20 game awards; hopefully, that success will continue with their next action role-playing game, Vampyr. In the latest trailer, we get a glimpse at the duality plaguing the main protagonist, Dr. Jonathan Reid, who is both a monster and a savior.

Vampyr plays off in 1918 London during an outbreak of the deadly Spanish Flu. Naturally, his skills as a medical doctor would be in high demand, but so would be the needs of the monster hiding within the man. "Dr Reid awakes having arrived home from serving in the Great War with a deathly new ailment: vampirism. A Doctor, Reid considers his affliction another disease. As he tries to understand and to live with it, he desperately tries to continue his life as a doctor, helping those stricken with flu."

In the new cinematic trailer, "the Darkness Within," we hear what some of London's citizens think about the mysterious Dr Reid. There's also talk of a monster roaming the streets, and we get a sense of the fear rippling through the city. In Vampyr, your actions will have consequences, as every death will have an effect on London's safety.

"In Vampyr, every citizen killed will affect London's safety. From shop closures to missing kin, the act of killing is unavoidable, but who you kill, and how, is in your hands. Every civilian can be killed, or saved - but as hordes of vampire hunters prowl the streets, growing strong on the blood of the weak will be ever more tempting."

Vampyr releases in 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox one.
