Black Friday go-to guide for SA game and tech deals

Black Friday SA guide.jpg

Black Friday is held on the last Friday of November each year; and this year Black Friday is on 25 November. We will of course be covering all the best gaming deals this Friday, but for now I’ve got a list of all the confirmed Black Friday promotions from South African retailers. Let's just hope the deals are better than last year...

WeChat

Mobile app WeChat has possibly the best deal ever on Xbox One and PS4 consoles in South Africa, but you will need to think fast on WeChat’s Green Friday sale. You can view the two absolutely astounding deals and the quantity available below.

  • Xbox One 500GB including Fifa 2017 - R1999 (200 units)
  • A PlayStation 4 (PS4) including God of War 3, DOOM and Valentino Rossi - R3549 (120 units)
  • Xbox One 500GB including FIFA 17 plus an extra controller – R2999 (TBA units)

You will need to install WeChat on your mobile device of course. Further, the deals are only valid if you pay via the WeChat wallet. The Green Friday sale’s FAQ does state that you do not have to have the funds in your wallet, but can pay using a linked credit card. The sale starts at 09:00 am on Friday and is limited to one per customer.

Wootware

Wootware is one of the cheapest SA stores when it comes to graphics cards as we’ve seen throughout the year with new NVIDIA and AMD cards coming out. Unlike most other stores that start their Black Friday sale in the morning, Wootware’s sale will start at 00:01 on Friday, so get those wallets ready for what I expect to be some amazing deals on PC parts, if their sale last year is anything to go by.

Makro

Makro’s Black Friday sale is, according to the retailer, will have “deals too big for Friday only” and will therefore run from 25 to 28 November with up to 45% off on selected products. But what can gamers expect from the sale? Well, Makro tweeted earlier today that: “You can expect some great gaming & hi-tech items on special” at the Black Friday Weekend.

Game

Game is running an in-store Black Friday sale which starts at 07:00 am on Friday, so when those doors open, there’s hopefully going to be some great deals; but that’s not all.

For those of you who are close to Durban, East Coast Breakfast and Game have teamed up to bring you “the most exclusive shopping experience” on Black Friday with a competition: “Skip the queues and the stress of hoping that your desired items are still on the shelf with this once in a lifetime opportunity to have the entire store open for your shopping pleasure for a whole hour!” – Source

You can enter the competition here and have a whole hour in the Game store in Game in Gateway Umhlanga if you are selected as the winner.

Raru

Last year Raru had some great revolving deals every two hours where gamers could pick up a variety of cool products. This year, Raru is again having a Black Friday sale starting at 08:00 am. At the time of writing it is unclear if the sale will follow the same revolving format. Even so, it is more than worth it to head on over to Raru already for a chance to win an Xbox One hamper. Read our article about the competition here.

Takealot

Last year I found an amazing deal from Takealot’s Black Friday sale. I finally upgraded my graphics card, purchasing a Gigabyte Geforce 960 OC Edition for the very low price (at the time) of R2895 and it was delivered for free at my doorstep in less than four days.

This year, Takealot is again having a Black Friday sale again, but they are calling it the Blue Dot Sale. The sale will run from 25 to 28 November and comprise a wide variety of products.

HiFi Corporation

HiFi Corporation is teasing a massive Black Friday sale on their website. At the time of writing we don’t know what type of products will be on sale, but the retailer does note that there will be deals up to 80% off, so you might be able to pick up a sweet deal on a TV for your console or a surround sound system.

DionWired

The DionWired Black Friday sale starts at midnight on 25 November. The sale is online only, so you won’t have to stand in queue in-store. There is no indication if stocks will be limited or which products gamers might want will be on sale. Even so, you can expect savings of “up-to 50% off”, so it is well worth checking out.

Incredible Connection

Just like DionWired above, Incredible Connection will be having a Black Friday sale start on 25 November at midnight. At the time of writing we do not know which products will be on sale, but you can sign up to their newsletter when you open their website to be notified as soon as the deals become available.

Digital game sales

If you want to purchase some games at large discounts, there are some awesome Black Friday deals floating around. We already covered the Top 10 must buy Xbox Black Friday deals available now (until 28 November) on the Xbox Store earlier this week; but what about the PS4 and PC?

First up, there is no big Steam sale currently announced for Black Friday or the weekend. However, the website called "Whenisthenextsteamsale" has been on point for the last couple of years and notes that the Steam Autumn Sale will start tomorrow, at 18:00pm SA time. As with all Steam sales, expect massive discounts on thousands of games.

Last but not least, Sony has recently confirmed (via a rather bizarre video which you can view below) that the PlayStation Store will be having a Black Friday sale with savings of up-to 60%. The sale will start on 24 November at 17:00pm PT (25 November at 02:00 SA time). At the time of writing there is no indication which games and at what prices they will be available during the sale.

Please let us know if we’ve missed any local retailers who are having a Black Friday sale and we will update the article accordingly.
