Is Ubisoft teasing a new game with a Watch_Dogs 2 Easter-egg?

Who doesn’t love an interesting Easter-egg in a videogame, especially if they could potentially point towards an unannounced project which gives rise to a plethora of speculations? The latest Easter-egg comes from Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world hackathon, Watch_Dogs 2. Polygon has recorded some gameplay footage of Watch_Dogs 2 which shows off an Easter-egg in the game that could possibly point towards a new, unannounced project by the publisher.

The Ubisoft headquarters has been recreated in the game’s virtual San Francisco. The video shows a massive poster Assassin’s Creed movie poster (which releases on 21 December 2016) hanging from the Ubisoft headquarter wall, but that’s not all.

There are small posters plastered on the building’s door windows that could be teasing a new, unannounced game. The image below (captured from the Polygon video embedded at the end of this article) shows two distinct posters, one with a female character and one with a dwarf-like character. The female character looks to be some kind of frost mage, while the dwarf holding a hammer might be a warrior or a paladin type character.

Ubisoft has no announced projects that these characters could possibly come from, which might suggest there is a new game in development. It could of course just be a silly little prank or simply have absolutely nothing to do with a new project. However, if it is a new game, what could it possibly be?

Both characters shown on the poster, in my opinion, look like they would fit very well into some kind of Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) in a fantasy setting. It could also be an RPG or maybe even an adventure game with fantasy characters, or a number of other possibilities.

Whatever the case may be, it’s definitely not the next Assassin’s Creed game.

About the next Assassin’s Creed game

Yes, of course there is going to be one, but when? In a recent interview with GameSpot, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke about the next Assassin’s Creed game:

"What we saw in the development of the next Assassin's Creed was that we had an opportunity to take it to another level. So we said we'll take all the time it takes to make the experience fantastic. It was feasible because we have other games. There's a huge potential in this game to revolutionise the IP, so we said, ‘Let's make sure we change our model so we have more time and that we can bring back a greater experience.’"

Instead of rushing out another Assassin’s Creed game every year, taking their time with the next title could be the best thing for the franchise. When asked directly if the next Assassin’s Creed will be released in 2017, Mr. Guillemot said that: “It will be back when it's ready. That's when we feel we have something there.” - Source

Judging by Mr. Guillemot’s answer, it is possible that we won’t even see a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2017.
