Gears of War 4 pre-order bonuses and gameplay footage

Hey, are you a Gears of War fan? Me too, but let’s be honest, the Gears of War 4 beta earlier this year probably left you a little cold. Fear not however as some recent footage will get you warmed up for the latest addition to the Gears of War franchise.

Those lucky people over at IGN have been getting their hands on the title for their IGN First series, and the recent gameplay from the campaign and multiplayer, as well as the new map flythrough are pretty exciting (albeit ultimately familiar to fans of the series).

On top of that, the pre-order bonuses have been revealed, and if extras prove to be your decision maker in buying titles, maybe the bonuses will be enough to see you pick up Gears of War 4 on release.

Buy now, get more

The ‘more’ in this case are additional character skins and weapon skins to use in multiplayer, so if you’re looking for Marcus and Anya in their post-Gears of Wars 3 outfits and a Zombie Dom (there’s always a zombie…) then the Brothers to the End Elite Gear Pack is for you and is a pre-order bonus included in all editions of Gears of War 4. According to the press release via Xbox Wire:

  • “Tomorrow Anya” is named after her famous words following the end of the Locust War (“Tomorrow Marcus. We finally have a tomorrow.”) Her appearance is based on her look in the Gears of War 4 television commercial, “Tomorrow,” where she was introduced as the mother of JD Fenix.
  • “Old Man Marcus” features an older Marcus Fenix as unveiled in the E3 2016 media briefing demo. Twenty-five years after the Locust War, Marcus and the COG have long since parted ways. His facial hair has grown long and his COG regulation kit has been replaced with by civilian clothes.
  • “Zombie Dom” proves there’s no keeping a good solider down, at least in the form of this character skin created as tribute to Marcus’ dearly departed best friend Dominic Santiago.

On top of that are some gold weapon skins for your Lancer and Gnasher which should make you visible across the map and are “updated versions of the gold weapon skins awarded to the series’ most-dedicated day one players.” These additional pre-order incentives arrive alongside the previously announced Vintage Del Pack, which also includes “retailer-specific bonus items, including unique weapon skins” as well as the Vintage Del character model.

And, if that wasn’t enough incentive, then pre-ordering secures you the “entire Xbox 360 Gears of War collection for use on Xbox One.” That means you can relive the entire saga including Gears of War Judgment all over again. OK. Maybe you can just ignore Judgment…

But let’s be fair, it’s still gameplay that counts and the recent videos by IGN First is why you’re more likely here.

The latest map flythrough – of the map ‘Impact’ - reveals another familiar Gears of War map layout – symmetrical and with the battle likely to happen around the power weapons. Controlling the sniper rifle (and being capable of using it) is likely to be a game changer. The multiplayer gameplay available also shows off the first gameplay of the DeeBees in multiplayer.

Earlier this week, footage from the campaign also made an appearance and it reveals father and son working together against the robotic DeeBee forces. Also spotted is the new Enforcer sub-machine gun and other new weapons like the Overkill and Embar, but surely the Lancer and Gnasher is all you really need?

All in all, Gears of War 4 is looking like the game most fans wanted after Gears of War 3, but whether it will be a system seller remains to be seen.

Gears of War 4 arrives 11 October 2016 in a Standard and Ultimate Edition priced R999 and R1899 respectively on the Xbox Store.
