The Southern Barbarians Rise Again

efrag csgo.jpg

In 2014, an unremarkable team from South Africa named, "The Southern Barbarians" decided to compete against the world's best Battlefield 4 teams during the prestigious ESL Nations Cup. At the end of the tournament, they walked away with the cup and the reputation of being, rather remarkable. In 2015 they defended their title but had an unfortunate 200 ping fall from grace. In February this year, the brave e-soldiers once again picked up their weapons and faced the battlefield where they fared better than most. This league of extraordinary gentlemen has paved the way for a second team of Southern Barbarians to enter the international eSports arena.

The Southern Barbarians Counter-Strike: Global Offensive squad will compete at the E-Frag: World Championships. I dare say, the team is looking mighty fine, and might very well be the "best possible squad" from the local CS: GO pool.

It seems they had a tough time deciding who to select for the squad. The press release states the selection process in detail, and I'll update the article with the lengthy explanation if anyone feels they need to know more. Personally, I feel the panel (consisting of players from six MGO's and over 50 years combined CS: GO experience) has enough knowledge of both the local players and eSports to have made the decision.

"It was a tough decision but we felt given the team selection criteria that we have chosen from 20 preselected is going to represent The Southern Barbarians in the best fashion and have the best opportunity of bringing back a positive result. – The Panel."
