Will The Witcher 3's Gwent be getting its own game?

While there was – and still is – much to enjoy in the world of The Witcher 3, one of the game’s most endearing and popular activities was the card game Gwent.

For fans of the game (within a game), you will probably be very happy to hear that Gwent may very well be heading out as a standalone game.

CD Projekt has recently filled for two trademarks with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, according to the eagle-eyed Nerdleaks. One of the trademarks is an extension of the 2015 filing of ‘Gwent’, but the trademark for ‘Gwent: The Witcher Card Game’ is the one that has the internet chatting.

The filing includes a logo and covers computer games and videogames in various formats, online gaming services, merchandise and more, ensuring that should the game become a reality, CD Projekt will have all the associated merchandising options covered.

It seems very likely that the rumour will be true given that the latest registration seems so complete, and the current popularity of Hearthstone, the Fable Fortune card game on Kickstarter and Bethesda’s plans for an Elder Scrolls card game. On top of that, CD Projekt has two unannounced titles planned alongside the promising Cyberpunk 2077.

However, whether a Gwent game will continue to have the same popularity outside of the visits to the bar in The Witcher would need to be seen. Would you be willing to invest the time in a Gwent standalone game if it sees the light of day? Let us know in the comments below.
