Chronos takes RPG gaming to another level with VR

If you're a role-playing game fan, then Chronos will get your juices flowing. It's a third-person RPG, Virtual Reality game for the Oculus, and it looks spectacular. Gunfire Games, the developer, announced yesterday that the game has gone gold and will release on March 28 - only on Oculus.

Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey said of the game: "Chronos  is like OG LOZ on VR steroids, it has more depth than almost any other VR game at this point."

"It feels great to finally be here, so close to the finish line," said David Adams, President of Gunfire Games.  "It's awesome to work on a launch title for exciting new hardware like Rift and to be part of such a huge launch. We can't wait for March 28 to arrive so players can get their hands on both Rift and Chronos."

Just look at these screenshots.

Now imagine playing it in VR! The screenshots alone already pull you towards Chrono's mythical world.

"Chronos is an atmospheric RPG that chronicles one young hero’s lifelong quest to save their homeland from a great evil. Central to this quest is an ancient labyrinth, which holds the secrets necessary to restore life and peace to their home. However, the architects of this labyrinth designed it to open only once a year.  The labyrinth is a test, and each time the hero fails they are cast out and must wait one year to return." Chronos is just one of 30 games releasing on the Oculus on March 28 (thanks for the prices Verge).

That's a pretty impressive lineup - Project Cars, Adrift, Elite Dangerous and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, to name but a few. I am currently busy playing Ethan Carter on PC, and it's a terrifying experience. I can't imagine going through the horror with Virtual Reality. Are you picking up an Oculus Rift, or is it too costly?

There's also the choice to make between Steam & HTC's VR, PlayStation VR, AMD's Sulon VR, or Microsoft's Hololens, to name but a few.
