August's games bring all the horror

August 2015 new game releases.jpg

Call a friend, put on all the lights, and grab a fresh pair of panties, because some of August's new game releases are not for the faint-hearted. If fear isn't your thing, then I highly recommend one of my most anticipated 2015 titles; Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. There's also the touching journey of a Tale of Two Brothers that makes it debut on PS4 and Xbox One. Xbox One owners can grab Gears of War: The Ultimate Edition while PlayStation 4 owners try to survive Until Dawn. If that's not enough action for PS4 players, then they can enter the first Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta (sorry Xbox people). And if you still have that horror itch, then take on the new generation of zombies in Zombi. If you've scratched that itch, and own a PlayStation, then have a good laugh and play Goat Simulator, the “Self-fulfilling, meta-prank.”

Since we published the article there's been a few updates: South African horror story, Stasis adding its terror to the list. I marked (new) where I've included updates.Don't forget to check the DLC section.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

Release Date: 11/08 WW

Platform: PS4 exclusive

Genre: Adventure

Age Restriction: TBA

Mode: Single-player

Game Info: In 2012 I interviewed Dan Pinchbeck, the creative director of The Chinese Room. He allowed me a peek into the world of Rapture and I was well, "in rapture" by what I he told me. One of the things he talked about was how Everybody's Gone to the Rapture will affect the player, "One of the central initial ideas behind Rapture was to try and create a game that really got into your heart, really broke your heart in a real and significant way. But that’s not about single emotion, or even a specific range, it's about trying to make something that you can connect with on a really deep, human level. It's a massive challenge."

Gameplay: “Over the course of the game, the player slowly pieces together the fate of the valley from the fragmentary memories of the people who made it their home. By finding and interacting with the traces of these lost lives, the player gradually learns about the stories and relationships of the inhabitants – how they lived, and how they died. All this is accomplished through revolutionary environmental storytelling – what you see and hear in Rapture is just as important as what you do.”

Developer: The Chinese Room

Goat Simulator

Release date: 11/08 WW

Platforms: PS4 & PS3 (already on PC, Xbox, Mobile)

Genre: “Self-fulfilling, meta-prank”

Age Restriction: M for Mature

Modes: Single-player / Multiplayer

Game Details: You run around town as a goat, able to run into things, lick things (your tongue sticks to objects and you can drag them around), jump around and other random activities. The appeal of the game is its open world physics. You can ram cars, try to break into houses and a host of other things, all up to the imagination of the player. Released on April Fool’s Day, it was obvious from the onset that it was one big joke. The game was never meant to be taken seriously, however that didn’t stop the hype around the game becoming enormous.

The nail-biting survival experience has been optimized for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC, using the power of the latest generation of hardware to bring gamers to a new level of horror."

Gameplay: "Players will experience the original oppressive and intense elements that made ZombiU so innovative. The bug-out bag is a necessary component for survival for each player as it contains all the player’s tools, inventory, first aid kits, maps and more. With permadeath, players are faced with a death mechanic which puts them in the body of a different survivor each time they die. In order to retain the equipment they previously gathered in their bug-out bag, they are forced to track down their old, infected character.
