Goodbye and thank you to NAG Magazine for an amazing 17 years

South Africa's favourite gaming magazine, NAG, is closing the doors to the printing press after 17 amazing years. It's goodbye but not game over, as the NAG website will undergo a transformation into "something not seen every day." I can't help but tear up a bit over the news. The NAG magazine introduced many of us to the rich and versatile world of video games. Owning a NAG magazine was like owning a piece of that which made gaming so special. Remember how you couldn't wait to see what demo's came with the latest NAG issue? I read some of the articles over and over. The quality of writing was just so good, and to be very honest, these days anyone can be a "videogames journalist" but lack that standard of writing we associate with a NAG magazine. A special mention to the amazingly talented Lauren das Neves, NAG magazine's Contributing Editor. Thank you for your tremendous contribution to the growth of SA gaming. Much respect.

Michael James, NAG magazine publisher, explained the reasons for shutting down NAG magazine in an open letter on the NAG website.

The print industry is diminishing quickly and because NAG speaks to a very connected, early adopting reader it has seen a faster than predicted drop-off in advertising and readers. We’re kind of in the middle of a storm of fewer people buying magazines, fewer companies spending money on print advertising, and an ever-volatile gaming industry.

To those readers who are upset about this, I’m sorry. There’s just no way that we can keep this amazing publication alive anymore. I don’t want NAG magazine to become an anchor that drags the rest of the company down, so it’s time to accept the inevitable."

The July issue will be the final NAG magazine and, therefore, a collector's edition, don't miss it.

From the MWEB GameZone team we wish NAG all the best with the new venture and thank you for the memories. Farewell, legend.
