Project CARS: The Community Assisted Racing Simulator

Project CARS - 1.jpg

I bet you think that screenshot up there is from Gran Turismo 6, Forza 5 or perhaps even Driveclub. It's not. It's from a game that's been in development since 2011 called Project CARS. And the reason you've probably never heard of it is because it's being independently created by a British development studio called Slightly Mad Studios. If you think that screenshot is impressive, wait till you see the trailer.

Over the last few years, we've seen a number of extremely impressive independently developed game releases, but Project CARS is definitely in pole position as far as technical proficiency is concerned. The game looks and sounds phenomenal and is easily equivalent to any Triple-AAA racer due for the next-gen systems.

This high-level of quality is even more impressive when you realise the game is being funded independently and development is happening via crowdsourcing. Through World of Mass Development (WMD), Slightly Mad is gathering the resources - both financial and manpower related - they need to see this game through to release. WMD allows anyone with the requisite skills to participate in the development of the game and Slightly Mad has set aside 70% of the games first two years of earnings toward remunerating the crowdsourced participants.

If you think you can contribute to the game, go sign up at World of Mass Development.
