With the next generation of consoles on their way, the focus turns towards what we can expect from the 'next big thing' in console gaming. Call of Duty: Ghosts, whether you like it or not, is expected to be one of the best selling titles that is supported by both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. After some recent announcements from the staff of Infinity Ward, it seems that the title is less that ready for the next generation.
At the recent E3 conference held in Los Angeles, Call of Duty's executive producer Mark Rubin stated the following regarding Ghosts, "Obviously we are in crazy early development and we will have to see how the consoles play out" he also added that the next generation AI is progressing “Slower than some of the graphics, to be honest, just because we don’t have final hardware".
With the E3 conference being only 4 months short of the launch date of the next Call of Duty title, the question must arise as to how the title can even be considered as ''crazy early development'. This lends itself to the concerns of whether or not the team over at Infinity Ward will be ready to deliver a truly next-gen experience. If they cannot do so, the blame can't really be pin pointed on Infinity Ward, due to them being held up by lack of “finished hardware”.

Mark Rubin went on to talk about the artificial intelligence (AI) in Call of Duty and stated, "we have made some cool improvements on AI. Most of it has to do with some of the cinematic values". According to the executive producer, most of the changes revolve around "situational AI” rather than the traditional COD combat which even he describes as “I’m shooting at a bunch of guys and a bunch of guys are shooting at me”. The basic rundown is that the AI will now behave differently in comparison to previous title. They now will react more independently to environmental changes. He went on to state, "It is subtle, really subtle,” according to Rubin who goes on to point out that, “AI in general is one of those things [where] the subtle things are often easy to notice when it is bad”.
In summary it sounds like the Call of Duty: Ghosts will have an uphill struggle to meet the expectations of the next generation of gamer. This just comes down to the fact the Infinity Ward haven't had enough time with the completed hardware to be able to push out the experience they truly would like to deliver. Lets hope that the development crew push themselves into overdrive in the next few months to deliver a truly next gen title.
