A colourful bunch* once sang a song proclaiming “war, war is stupid, and people are stupid…” Someone needs to tell most gamers that sometime. Especially when the clan is called All out War.
When did AoW form and what was the game of choice?
AoW (All out War) started with some friends catching up and having fun. The founders – Allen, Morne, Justin, Eric and Graham – never realised that they had the potential to reach their level of achievement in such a short space of time. The clan gradually grew with the nurture of the founders and AOW now boasts a clan of approximately 30 Skilled Members.
What is the clan’s main game of choice currently?
AoW is a PS3 Call of Duty clan.
Any other games that the clan plays together for fun?
We do play a bit of GT 5 for fun now and then but we are a CoD clan.
PS: on GT 5 Allen Venter can drift anything, and I mean anything.
How often do you try to play together as a clan?
We have players playing every day and we make it a point to have all the members in one lobby when we play but most of the time we play on weekends.
The clan is based on PS3. Any plans to expand to the ‘other’ platform?
We are looking to grow AoW to other platforms. We want to be on every console, every PC and in every house …….mmmm ya that sounds creepy …but you get the point AoW is going to be everywhere (evil laugh)ha ha ha ha ha…
How many members are you currently? Keen to give out their names, credit card details and ID numbers?
Alright, only PSN IDs will do.
allenventer(clan founder )
NIGHTWOLF_Q1(clan leader )
How is the clan structured in terms of organisation and leadership?
Well Allen Venter is the clan founder so he is like the big cat at the top.
nightwolf_Q1 he is the clan leader and makes sure the clan is happy and doing all the paper work… lol sucker.
Morne Botha is the 2ic. He handles all the social media and clan games (he knows all that is to know in the Facebook and Twitter world).
Then we got tomsawyer42. He got pull in to the management team, but not sure what his job is yet. Maybe crowd control. Not sure yet, will see lol.
Any tournaments you have participated in? Won any?
Not yet but we are looking to take part in a few in 2013 – if all goes to plan that is.
Is attending LANs important to the clan and its members – especially considering the lack of LANs in the console scene?
AoW members are split all over South Africa and Spain (johnnybumfluff - lucky fish) so we don’t get to have a LAN as such, but we think it is very important to have LAN tournaments and online tournaments to get the gaming scene out there. It is like any other sport out there, and people need to know how good gaming can be and fun.
Are you guys actively recruiting for new players? If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?
AoW is always looking for new players and members. Anybody can go to the webpage www.aow-rsa.co.za and just sent in the application form, then management will talk and if we all agree, the player is put on a week’s trial where they play with the clan and the clan will say if you are in or not .When you do make it there is a small fee to pay of R1 mill (funny nobody has paid this yet. Mmmm must look in to it) PS. We not looking at KD, we care more about team players and people we have fun with while playing.
What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?
AoW is not looking for much. Everybody says they want world domination, we say that is thinking like a noob. We want it all, we want to rule the universe, so any intelligent life out there take note, we call dibs.
Which opposing clan(s) do you most respect/hate/want to be like? [delete not applicable]
There are a few good sa clans out there s43k, clu3,raw ,fear ,sob, rage and omen, and we love playing with them all. It is what makes CoD so much fun. To meet all these new people that has the same passions as you.
In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?
Look, gaming in South Africa is far behind the rest of the world. We think there should be more companies getting involve in gaming, holding tournaments, sponsoring clans, getting kids to play more online games, get them off drugs and out of gangs (and in to clans lol) and have fun. I mean that is what it is all about right? To have fun. There must be more advertising on gaming tournaments like TV and radio ads get people involved.
Gaming is a way of life and doing it where more people can see and hear about it, we can make it grow and get more sponsors involved.
Right, let’s have a little fun…
If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…
… a chain gang.
War movie that best describes the clan?
Platoon. We are a band of brother and a close family.
If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?
The Star Wars theme song (mmm, the force is strong with this one).
Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you head off?
We as AoW want to thank Zombiegamer for the time to do the interview, and for G3 for all the help they have giving us in the last year. And remember it is just a game – have fun that is what it is all about.
