If you play games online, regardless of it's genre, then you must know of Wheaton's Law. And if you don't know Wheaton's Law, then you should learn it before you decide to venture online. For the uninitiated Wheaton's Law
is basically this: Don't be a Dick.
Star Trek cast member, frequent guest-star on The Big Theory and professional geek, Wil Wheaton stated the Law when he was invited to deliver the keynote address at the 2007 Penny Arcade Expo. Now I'm sure all of us can see what the mutual benefits of everyone not being a Dick can have on society from a global perspective, but Wheaton initially conceived the Law specifically with the behaviour of online gamers in mind.
So in keeping with original his thoughts, it's always nice to know, what exactly constitutes 'being a dick' when playing World of Warcraft, Call of Duty or even Farmville for that matter. Knowing where the line is, is of vital importance when one is trying not to cross it. So if you find yourself playing online and committing anyone of the sins described in the video below, know that you have violated Wheaton's Law and that you are, in fact, being a Dick.
