So as a weaksauce update to my story of yesterday, it turns out that Microsoft are not planning to release Halo 3 on Steam any time soon. It seems that the steamapps tool that one can use to look into the enormous Steam Database is sometimes fallible because mostly, people don’t actually know how the Database actually works. So although steamapps has been successfully used to leak forthcoming titles in the past, it’s also on a sort of hit or miss basis and sadly this was one of those times.
None of this.
Eurogamer.net got the following response from a Microsoft spokesperson when asked about the above rumours:
"We currently do not have plans to release any 'Halo' titles on Steam."
So succinct in crushing our dreams.
One game that has been confirmed as a result of the leaked list of yesterday is that Psychedelic PSN shooter will definitely be coming to the Steam platform. Developer Shawn McGrath is hoping to release the game for PC, Mac and Linux and has been involved in talks with Valve since March last year. Speaking to Joystiq.com, he said:
"This was a rather interesting thing that happened…I didn't plan on announcing Dyad on Steam yet, but what can I do now?"
All of this.
I think that while the gaming community can’t really chalk this up as a complete win, it’s not a total loss either. Either way, we get to shoot things so let’s all (try) be happy.
