Studio behind Epic Mickey shuts down

Rumours tend to be false more often than not, but the unfortunate rumor of the studio behind the creation of Epic Mickey and its sequel (Epic Mickey 2), Junction Studios, shutting down has been confirmed.

Parent company Disney confirmed the news in a statement today:

"It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We're extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2."

Junction Studios was founded in 2005 by Warren Spector, whom is most famous for his work on Deus Ex. The studio was based around several former employees of Ion Storm, where Spector previously worked. Junction Studios have only two games under their belt, being Epic Mickey (2010) and its sequel Epic Mickey (2012). Epic Mickey 2 has not been as successful, selling as little as 270,000 copies before 2012.This low amount of sales is much less than its predecessor and could be the main cause to the downfall of the studio.

Did you ever manage to get a chance to play either of the two Epic Mickey titles? If so, let us know what you thought of the game or even better let us know what you think of Junction Studios shutting down shop.
